Great ideas!! We have 2 bathrooms for 4 people and even that doesn't feel like enough some times!! Gosh, you really nailed it with the 'reinforce manners' part. I would say 8 out of 10 fights in our home stem from brushing teeth...
There have been numerous studies that have proven no added weight as a result of consuming nuts. The one mentioned herein cites pecans as the healthiest nut based on antioxidant properties. I can live with that reason for them being more expensive.
Your thoughts?
I don't have a father in my life, but my husband and I will most likely go to the in-laws since his dad loves to grill and we'll do the BBQ thing and at least get him a card if not some small gift. (Probably something golf-related.)
We're saving our father's day celebration until my parents come out to visit in July. We'll be treating both mom and dad to a special day of their choice. Sometimes it's fun to gift an experience rather than a "thing."
Hi, Guest, and thanks for writing. You raise a couple of good points. If something is very labor-intensive to process, you have to admit: time is money. You have to decide if that's how you want to spend your time and energy, too. It doesn't sound from your comment like you enjoyed the process, which makes a difference, too. Canning is definitely work - some enjoy it; some do not.
It’s a bit flippant, but I often ask "What's your deal?" People usually interpret that as an opportunity to tell me about whatever they are most interested in at the moment. It confuses people sometimes, of course, but adventurous people typically step right up to an open-ended question like that.
Grocery shop on a set schedule- once a week or every two weeks- with no food purchases in between. Also use a list and stick to it. No exceptions. Curb impulse spending by steering clear of stores and shopping centers. Set mandatory "waiting periods" before making any purchase. During the wait, ask yourself if the item is something you truly need or if you could improvise or borrow the item from a friend. Often you'll find other ways to fill the need without buying anything new.
I spend a few minutes in the afternoon calling all the Father's in my life. My Dad passed away two years ago so in his memory I call all my friends with kids, uncles, paternal figures in my life and wish them a happy day and thank them for being Dads.
I don't celebrate Mother's Day or Father's Day.. never have. I celebrate their birthdays, and my father's happens to fall close to Father's Day, so I guess that works out fine for him... I'm taking him to a movie tonight.
I will make my husband breakfast in bed and later we will ride our bikes to the park. I'm not sure yet if any of our daughters or our grandchildren will be able to come or if they will just call.
Dads gets a day off. No cooking or cleaning! The family cooks dinner for all the Dads and clean up afterward. Sometimes the dads get together and go shooting or go to a movie.
We don't celebrate father's besides wishing our father. It's mainly because these days are created by businesses to make people buy more. We'd rather make our dad's birthday special by spending time with him and giving him gifts. We'd rather want to visit our parents often and be with them.
I had canning equipment- waterbath style and hardly used it. I canned pears once, that I got free from my neighbor's trees. The time to peel and can them wasn't worthwhile even getting the fruit free. I still needed pectin and sugar. I could have written a few articles in the 6 hours it took to peel and can one batch of pears. I canned tomatoes once and same thing. The time it took to process, it is less expensive for me to use that time to write a few freelance articles and buy canned tomatoes at my local store. I gave away the canning stuff, because after I calculated the expense, I never bothered with it again.
Nice gifts, cards from the kids/grandkids, breakfast at church, delicious homemade lunch at home after church.

I'll call my dad, who's many states away, and wish him well. Other than that, I'm sure we'll all enjoy the lovely summer weather and the weekend.

I do not live in the same city as my Dad and my Father's day will depend on what my wife has planned for us. :-)
We will have a dinner out on Father's Day
We are going to spend the day doing what dad loves to do, work outside in the yard :)
