Here in ohio they gave me a little over $100.00 a week when i got laid off then a previous employer was bitching that he shouldn't be included in this and then they told me i might loose my unemployment due to a previous employer. I don't understand why the put on previous employers anyway that is stupid or a ploy to get you out of being on it. Anyway then they said oh we got a new program you will have to go down each week to the unemployment office and apply for a job or we will boot you off. Not to mention you were running around everyday to keep logs of business's that you visited to get a job anyway or you would still loose your unemployment. The unemployment center here is cincinnati ohio is linked now to the welfare system and i didn't know that and here if you get on unemployment you are given the welfare treatment now. Which is watch your back or these people who don't give a crap about you will stop your benefits in a minute just to pat themselves on the back and tell their supervisor i got another one off today haha. I save the government alot of money. The thing is my employer paid into that so i could have something to live on if i got laid off but these idiots don't care about that only to get you gone.
I don't rely on my tax refunds for purchases or to pay bills. Ideally, the tax due or refunded come April 15, should be within $100 but that is difficult to do. Last year, I applied my refund from 2015 to my taxes for 2016 and will probably do the same this year since I pay estimated taxes.
This article misses the biggest source of money to pay for college, the college itself. The largest scholarship a student is likely to receive will come from the college in the form of need-based or merit-based aid. There are many colleges that will offer merit aid (tuition discounting) to get students to attend their school. Colleges not ranked in the top 50 nationally often award significant ($10,00-$20,000) to students whose academic qualifications put them in the top quarter of the freshman class.
I try not to get a refund. That's my money the government has kept without giving me interest. If I owe, that's me using their money as a loan without paying them interest.
My credit score just got back to 800 after being in the high 700s for a year. It had been in the low 800s for several years before that. I currently have close to a $1,000,000 debt from investments and a business purchase and just turned 27. Good credit is mostly about good management practices, not about having money.
Congrats to all the others in the 800 club!!!
I've either saved a tax refund for future needs or paid off student loans. Considering I don't have student loan debt anymore, I think this was a good choice.
I don't get a large refund so I usually just put it most of it in savings but use a little for a treat. Like if it's $560, I'll put $500 in savings and use the other $60 to go out to dinner and the movies.
Since we're self-employed and pay quarterly taxes, if we've overpaid, we pay ahead on the coming quarterlies. In the rare event of an actual refund, we use the money for regular expenses.
I generally save my tax return and use it throughout the year to cover extra expenses as they come up, for example, replacing a water heater or covering an unexpected vet bill or car repair. At the end of the year I use part of what's left for Christmas gifts. This has worked well for me throughout the years.
I am expecting a small tax refund this year. I plan to out it in savings, as I've done for the several past years. I have no regrets about that, I spend the money when it is truly needed!
When we had debt, it would go toward that. Now it goes in the college fund.
I haven't gotten a refund in years.

If I get one, I just save it.

Took my wife to Greece to celebrate 40 years of love...Larry S. In Ct.

When I was still paying off my student loans are usually used it for that. Now that they are paid off I just put it away as savings.

That's how I almost got scammed, fortunately the check never got cashed on my bank account
I usually spend it on bills.
We never get a refund.

It's rare that I get a refund! But, when I have in years past, I've usually used it to pay off bills.

My refund goes right into savings. Every year.
I usually allocate half of my refund toward building my emergency savings, but then use the other toward travel. It's a nice way to treat myself!
I spend tax refunds on bills. I try not to get tax refunds and to adjust my withholding.
I usually use 2/3 of it to pay off debt and the rest to buy something I've been wanting.
I usually save it. I'm not expecting a refund this year though, now that I'm married I usually end up paying more.
I've spent past tax refunds on vacations and home improvements.
