Carrie Kirby

Reporter, writer and winner of Peninsula Press Club's Best Tech Story Award

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom Carrie worked for six years as a business and technology reporter at The San Francisco Chronicle. Nowadays, she focuses on personal finance -- very personal, as in feeding a family of five on $100 a week including the all-important extras like wine and cat food. (Neither of those are for the kids.)

Carrie writes about hard-core Chicago bargain hunting including CVSing, extreme grocery couponing and the occasional garage sale or alley treasure. To assure herself she's not turning into her grandma, Carrie likes to think of her blog as irreverent and fun.

Carrie Kirby writes about personal finance, technology, and travel. A former newspaper journalist, she loves the opportunity to learn new things and meet interesting people that journalism affords. Her work has appeared in Wise Bread, San Francisco, Marin, The Atlantic's CityLab, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Chicago Tribune, and The Best Women's Travel Writing, Volume 10. She has been a Jefferson Fellow with Honolulu's East-West Center and is a past winner of the Peninsula Press Club's Best Technology Story award.
