The economy and rising gas costs have consumed at least 60% of my regular news and public television broadcast programming. While I’ve heard all there is to hear about how bad food prices are getting, why can’t someone give me some real tips on how to cope? Maybe if things get bad enough, I could take a lesson or two from the late 1800’s Prairie Farmer magazine.

I was raised on canned food. We never had much money, so my folks bought food in cans because it lasted forever, it was cheap and, if dented or without a label, really really cheap. Most times we'd open up a can like it was a present..."I wonder what's for dinner tonight?" I always ate it. Probably because most of the time, it was spaghetti hoops or green beans or something else just as inocuous. But what if the following items has been inside?

Ghetto Mac

Let me clarify something. I'm no huge fan of the Golden Arches. I'd much rather have a nice tray of sushi. But this is Wisebread and it's our job to cater to bargain-hunters everywhere. And in fulfilling that aim, I came across GHETTO MAC!

What on earth is GHETTO MAC?
You know, it astounds me of the great lengths some people will go to for a bargain. At roughly $3.39 for just the Big Mac sandwich, a couple of ingenious fellas with a lack of funds decided they could beat the McSystem. Maybe you could make a Big Mac (sort of) with the basic Double Cheeseburger from the $1 menu. Clever huh?
