We’ve often joked that Craigslist is a haven for unworthy junk and hopeless cast-offs, but in my experience, it has proven to be a time and money-saving resource that I regularly use for finding amazing deals and solid bartering opportunities. House Trap

It seems like new variations of the Nigerian 419 scam pop up every week. The one that caught my attention recently involved renting a home, and it’s a nasty trick that could take anyone by surprise. But if you know what to look for, you can avoid it.

Crappy old car

I love stories like this. It gives me hope that one day, something “worthless” sitting in my garage will instantly fill up my daughters’ college funds. In this case, the seemingly worthless item was a rusty bucket of bolts called a 1963 Pontiac Le Mans Tempest. When I saw the pictures, I was surprised at the high starting bid of $500. Imagine how the owner felt when it netted him almost a quarter of a million dollars.

“Free” category on Craigslist to be renamed “Haul away my old, bulky, broken crap for free.”

free garbage

I used to love the “free” button on Craigslist. There were some killer giveaways on there, including things like antique movie projectors, great toys for the kids, ornaments, lamps and so on. But these days, at least on the Denver Craigslist, the free category seems to have been taken over by some rather blatant attempts to convince someone (anyone) to do an unpleasant job for free.

fresh crap for sale

In my journey from being a North American Entrepreneur to a Professional Hobo, I had to shed a lot of crap. For the purposes of this article I will focus on the process (which proved to be quite effective) of shedding the physical junk that clutters our lives. This process is great not only for people wanting to make drastic changes in their lives like I did, but also for the average bear who needs to downsize the amount of stuff they have.

Ed's post about moving and getting rid of stuff got me thinking about my clutter. Are you barely able to breathe in your cluttered household? Have tons of stuff that you need to get rid of?

A few weeks ago, I took a seminar called "Commanding Your Clutter" at a local community college. Here's what I learned about collecting, hoarding, shopping, and finally, letting go of all that junk.

Most people who hold onto things for the following reasons:

I paid so much for it! Yes, but are you getting your money's worth from it? No? Sell it.

If you ever want to take stock of all that you’ve worked hard to purchase over time, and how much stuff you think you need to hang on to, go through each and every possession you own and decide what to keep and what to sell, or give away. You might be surprised at how attached you are to your stuff. I’m, of course, talking about packing up and moving.

It's amazing what people will throw away these days. Or give away. And that's why I'm a huge fan of Craigslist .

Not only is a great place to sell all that stuff you thought no-one would buy, it's also an ideal way to get your hands on some great things for almost nothing. Or even better, actually nothing!

Looking for Love (Online)

Ack! Valentine's Day is here, and you're without a date! What to do?

I used to get a few single friends together, drink champagne, and watch Sex in the City. You can opt to embrace the solitude, either through doing something that only you like doing (folding origami stuff), or by listening to Mary J. Blige and weeping your eyes out.

Or, you can post a personal ad, and get yourself a date.
