The many reasons--besides frugality--to do for yourself

Doing for yourself--cooking your own meals, making your own clothes, growing your own vegetables, playing your own music, baking your own bread--is sometimes justified on the grounds of being frugal. This often leads to an analysis as to just how frugal it really is. I don't think that analysis is very useful, primarily because doing for yourself is often a wise choice whether it's frugal or not.

After the unexpected popularity of my previous post on dents , I thought it would be good to follow up with perhaps an even more annoying and prevalent form of car damage - scratches. We all get them, they really look awful and I have been on the hunt finding new and old techniques for removal.

Once again, I can't vouch for the success of all of these as I have only tried a couple. And as always, the type of scratch and model/make of car will also vary the result you get. But they're always worth a try. Here we go...

Like DIY? Avoid these TEN costly mistakes.

I love DIY. I’m completely awful at it, but as I’m thrifty I’d much rather do something myself than pay someone else three times as much to do it. But here’s the rub. You can end up costing yourself more in the long run by doing it yourself. So, I scoured the web looking for the obvious and not-so-obvious mistakes DIY addicts make and compiled this list.

PLUS, as a special treat for you all, I’ve included a video at the end of home improvement mishaps, or DIY inaction in action. Better not watch it if you don’t like seeing folks screw up. Anyway, be a safe DIYer and enjoy the smell of sawdust in the morning.
