hand shaking

As a professional ad man, I'm ashamed to say that I'm really not good at advertising, well, me. That goes double in social situations. One summer my mother showed me a series of articles in Money magazine by a reporter named Ryan D'Agostino who knocked on the doors of expensive homes to find out how the occupants became rich. Now a couple years later, D'Agostino has collected the entire experiment along with his personal stories into a book called Rich Like Them.

Posted January 6, 2009 - 10:55 by Sarah Winfrey

General Tips

dejected boy

Whatever holidays you celebrate in November, December, and January, they're over now. We spend November and December gearing up, getting ready, anticipating days off from work, travel, good food, and good times with people we love. Then January hits, and that's all over. Sure, you could call a company's customer service line in times of trouble. I've done it in the past with excellent results. I've also run into the occasional “I don't care.” The next time you find yourself with no audience for your frustration, have your “people” call their “people.” It works.

Farmer with dog

There are all kinds of ways to get stuff without money. You can grow it in a garden, gather it from the wild, make it yourself, get it as a gift, scavenge it from trash, or get it free from someone who hopes to sell you something else. All of these generally involve spending time instead of spending money--but someone who's getting by without a job probably has some time to spend.

Do you know how to use a parking meter? Serious question.
