Dental care is one of those big expenses that hits us in the pocketbook when we least expect it. Most people pay at least some of their dental bills out-of-pocket. Some people go in for a routine cleaning and come out with a schedule of appointments for thousands of dollars worth of restorative work. Traditional dentistry focuses on repairing the damage done by plaque-causing bacteria, but does little to address the underlying cause of decay and gum disease. A new trend called minimally invasive dentistry views these bacteria not as normal and unavoidable body flora, but as an aggressive bacterial infection that can be eliminated using a rational cleaning regimen.

The Great Whitening Hype

The home teeth whitening market is expected to grow 30% in the next decade. While this isn’t surprising in itself, I am shocked at the number of new products continually being added to my local retailer’s shelves. This has caused me to wonder what all the hype is about, and if any of the products are truly worth the investment.

$7 off of Crest Whitestrips

Whitening your teeth is not cheap. I've never had the dentist whiten my chompers, but I have used Crest Whitestrips, and they worked pretty darn well. They were also pretty darn expensive (around $30 or so).

Fortunately, Crest seems to feel bad about this, so they will send you all kinds of coupons if you sign up to receive their promotional email.

I did, and once every month or so, I get an email with a new coupon link. I don't use all of them, but they're pretty handy when I do. Anyway, here's one for $7 off of Crest Whitestrips. Happy whitening!
