Most people DO NOT misunderstand the concept that is being offered here. Yeah, we know it doesn't "cool" the air, but it moves it, which makes it seem cooler. Don't be a dork.

Great article Philip. The headline is what pulled me in haha. But you make some great points, especially the bit about college. As someone who just dove into college without thinking about the financial end whatsoever, I always recommend people consider the costs of college when making their decision on where to go.

I certainly can attest to the social benefits of sports, as my continued engagement in the dame sports of my youth - soccer and tennis - allowed me to establish social networks after relocations.

The biggest lesson you have learnt is how to avoid those mistakes in the future. Unfortunately you learnt the hard way and your credit score is a reminder. But you have survived and someone else can learn from you too.

We actually did what they don't recommend; we borrowed it from our retirement account. But, in the long run, it was WORTH it!! We did it the summer of 2001, just before 9/11 happened, (& our portfolio lost a good percentage of its worth anyway), we paid ourselves back in 2 years with interest, which went directly into our retirement account. Not a conventional way to have it work, but taking care of it and saving over 6K in interest was totally worth it. Again, not recommended, but you have to see if it will work for you.

  • 6 Money Myths About Stay-At-Home Moms   9 years 34 weeks ago

I couldn’t agree more with this article. Sarah you are right when you say that some stay at home moms feels like being slaves. I speak from experience and not only that but some days I feel all lonely but knowing how many expenses are cut by taking care of my own children I can only say: worth it. Kids are a job no doubt and if you need side income you can check workfromhomenewsletter com (not affiliated with them that’s why I don’t link) I snagged a job there a while ago.

  • Laid Off? You May Have to Fight for Unemployment Benefits   9 years 34 weeks ago

Wow. I've been through this several times over the years here in Alabama. The system is the state and employer against the employee. The first two are allied and have no interest in paying anything and the employee is considered guilty until proven innocent. On top of that you are penalized for even applying for unemployment if you don't get it! And I am currently appealing a charge that I was fired for misconduct for simply doing my job. I agree with those who say to document everything even if it's just little notes to yourself. I think that will help me with my appeal.

Purposely keeping low limit cards helps too. Many credit card companies will try to increase your limits, but if you don't have access to it, then the credit won't become a crutch.

There is some misinformation above that can cause false impressions related to treatment of back pain and confusing massage therapy and physical therapy as synonymous. Physical therapists evaluate and treat movement disorders with exercise, movement modifications, joint and soft tissue mobilization techniques.

To also suggest to someone the impression that their doctor should send them to physical therapy for massage as the main objective to treat chronic back pain is misguided, because back pain is diverse in subtypes can be caused by many other factors. Medical research does not strongly support massage as the most effective treatment for all types of low back pain either, as treatment effectiveness really depends on the cause and structures involved.

  • Trader Joes vs. Costco: What's a Better Place to Shop?   9 years 34 weeks ago

Even though this is a little old, I really enjoyed reading it. I recently moved back to the East Coast after living all of my adult life in Europe. Being used to cheap freshness galore and biking to the market on Saturday morning, my first month of grocery shopping here was devastating. Finally ignoring everyone's warnings of "Whole paycheck", I went to Wholefoods and fell in love with it, no two ways about it. That in combination with the local organic farmer was in my eyes health food perfection. But because selling our house, the one we bought before the bubble burst, (and moving here, having 8 grand tied up in deposits, no credit card and me being between jobs) had left us with zilch, I simply could not justify the extra $$$ a week it was costing us to shop like this. So I tried out the around-the-corner FoodLion and quickly realized that I would soon be obese and my girls would have breasts by the time they turned 7, and maybe even a few extra fingers and toes. So I'm glad that there are people that have done the research for me and have made this a little easier on me. I'm lucky that I live within 30 minutes of all of the major stores, so with help of good blogs, we'll get this figured out soon.
