I think my best investment so far will be the education I get after getting a second degree to switch careers. I'm going to be much happier with what I do and have many more options to work in the new field I've chosen.
The best investment I ever made was my grad school degree. It helped me to jump careers and double my income. Also, I think traveling can be an investment -- it's like an education in that it enriches your life and is something that can never be taken away from you.
Why on earth would anyone have a tag sale unless pissing off your neighbors is your goal. When you have a tag sale, you are subjecting all homes around you to excessive traffic, rude obnoxious people destroying the landscaping and excessive noise. So go ahead and have a tag sale... just don`t be surprised when the neighbors ignore you and won`t talk to you.
Other ways that might be better in the long term are to:
- have a garage sale
- pick up extra work even if it's babysitting, dog walking, lawn mowing, etc.
- eat from your pantry for a week or two. Most of us have enough that we could forego grocery shopping for a while
- stop going out to eat
- stop buying clothes. Most of us have plenty for YEARS.
- cash in any savings bonds you might have lying around
- once the emergency is over, continue these strategies until you have a real emergency fund
I have a couple of questions of course but of a different type.
I think we have all seen this example in peoples yards.
We have a 2 acre yard with no underground sprinkling system and I use a pull behind sprayer for my garden tractor. Do I just pour this solution into the tank and add 10 gals. of water and then spray it on the yard ? Will take a while with 2 acres but need to know.
Here is the 2 nd question.
Our daughter and husband have 2 small dogs, 1 male and 1 female and when they visit, they let the dogs out to do their thing on our yard. I've noticed over time that where the male empties is bladder, the grass is unbelievably green and growing like crazy while where the female does her thing, the grass actually turns brown and dies.
So, does anyone know WHAT in the male dogs urine is causing the reaction in the grass and can it be duplicated as a fertilizer ???
Our best investments have been our homes. Our last home we sold for a profit of $65,000. Our current home has increased $90,000 in value. We are updating it to add more value. We are doing a lot of the work ourselves to save money. We are also paying cash for all materials.

Thanks for pointing this out. All true. Plus, we put it in our leases the number of adults and number of children who will be residing in the unit. How are we supposed to put that in the lease if we don't ask how many kids they have. It makes no sense whatsoever that we should not know how many people will be living our rental units.
