We do have online banking for a savings account; it is something accessible, but not right there if we need it, so we use it for our emergency fund! We really like our local bank, which is not a large one, with local people who know you by name. I see them a few times a month, and customer service is important. (It is good for them too! I heard one of the bank employees' name on the radio in the car and she won $100 because I mentioned it to her when I walked in! :)
I have used online banking for quite some time now because it not only helps the environment, I don't have unnecessary papers lying around the house. Also the bill pay portion of online banking is nice since with a few clicks you can have your payment sent compared to waiting for it to get through the snail mail.
You might wanna google garanteed retirement. The administration is already looking at the possibility of siezing all 401k's so they can distibute retirement funds. Its for your own good. By the way, did i mention they want to force all workers to pay into it?
I love online banking: I can pay bills, move money from account to account and, best of all, get an online bank to siphon a chunk of money from checking each month, i.e., automated savings. I can't spend it if I don't have it.
Absolutely. My bank isn't even in my area so I use online banking for everything, including the phone app to do deposits. Of course to avoid the ATM fees, I usually go with a POS transaction and get cash back!
Hi. Thanks for this article. Goal setting and planning to achieve those goals we hear all the time, but adding the bit on the end of your article regarding failure, was for me the most important thing. Many of us forget that failure is a massive part of any success as we can learn as much from it. Many people think that failure means 'it is over'. I have found it means 'look for another solution'. Great article. Thanks again.
One way to keep warm in winter and cool in summer is to plant shrubs and trees which can grow to 2-3 meters about 4-5 meters away from the house so that they can grow closely and as a thick barrier. This will reduce warm and cool air blowing directly into the homes through windows and doors. Another way is to use reed mats if you have metal fences or fences with gaps. Use north facing bedrooms where possible as your bedrooms as they get good sunlight during the day and keep cool at night. Use rugs and socks at home to keep warm. wear appropriate clothes for the season
Even if you fulffilled "all" the dreams you wrote down....you'd still be the same person you were before you wrote "anything" down to begin with! : )) Welcome to the wonderful world of Humanism Folks!! Be a better "you"....which involves "losing" who you really are to get a new matrix version of yourself. Sorry, I already like who I am, and don't need to do this. Just "liking" who you are is a whole lot easier....and alot less dramatic!!! LOL!!! Brian
I think this was a great post! I also have a side job in addition to a 40 hour work week. My side job is already in addition to two days during the week that I already work so it really does not consume alot of my time and while I don't plan on working it for say, 40 years, I will work the side job until I have more of a comfortable savings and my student loans are paid off.
I recently drove behind the closest Trader Joe's location and filled my reusable bag twice trying to save what I possibly could. They had all this and more out in shopping carts:
2 bunches organic bananas
6 organic Gala apples
1 lb strawberries
2 lbs grapes
2 pkgs chicken pesto sausages (still frozen)
4 lbs sliced mushrooms
2 lbs carrots
1 lb broccoli
1 lb zucchini
1 lb yellow squash
2 bags washed mixed lettuce (not even expired or wilted)
Many packages Brie, Jarlsberg and goat cheese
1 bag organic valencia oranges
1 lb unsalted butter
3 containers basil
3 sandwich wraps (which expired that day)
1 small pie pumpkin missing its stem (i.e., not "pretty")
It was as if I had written the store a grocery list and asked them to leave it outside for me to pick up. Only, it was all free. Nothing was wilted, bruised, melted, moldy or stale. I thanked God and promised that nothing I found that day would go to waste. It's made me think about food in new and creative ways. I made grape jam and applesauce and froze some of the cheese and most of the bananas for banana "ice cream". Other than that, everything else has been consumed with absolutely no waste except for 2 grapes and 1 orange I could not save.
I can't fault the store or the chain of wasting anything. They did a responsible thing by setting the items out for people to find in the most hygienic way possible. I wish more stores would employ the same method. As long as it's during daylight hours, it's certain that most animals (other than homo sapiens) would stay away.
Also, I still shop inside, and feel the same, if not better, about the store as I did before I shopped behind it.
In an unstable economy, there is no greater security than having multiple sources of income.
In fact, I can live off my part-time job. That's security.
Splurging probably means different things to different people. For me it's spending a small amount of money on something non-practical, just for fun or entertainment or something I want but don't need. It's nice to have a little treat from time to time.
i totally agree i wash my hands about a dozen of times in my own house never mind anywhere else i wash all my fruits and vegetables and the tops of my cans because they sit in the warehouse collecting dust rats mind you probably urine on them which is toxic to our bodies and kill you. people now a days are nasty what do you mean in your time it wasn't all these problems well you wonder why people die with no causes or they have cancer or whatever if i can prevent things and take the time to wash things i will and if im going to pay to eat out i don't want to someone with gloves on handling money and not change their gloves and start preparing my food, or even being super clean before handling my food thats why i try to mainly eat at home where i know it is safe and nasty people are not touching my food
Umm ya'll are trippin. My wife and I make 48K a year and have decent 3/2 house with an HOA. I got student loans, and our cars are about 4 years old. We have 2 kids, and are saving up for college. We don't take fancy trips, we go out now and then but nothing fancy. We work, play with our kids, and thats about it.
The American dream is still viable, the problem is people are getting GREEDIER! Look at the avg house size now compared to the 1960s. How many TVs do you need in your house? How many new pairs of shoes?
Relative deprivation, don't believe me Check this out
I think side income will boost your confidence at your main job and widen your career development.
On the other hand it depends, whether it allows you to concentrate on your main income job and pursue career development. Side income could be very exciting but counterproductive.
What if you would invest all your time in the career development? So it is really tricky question.
I do it because I really enjoy myself, rather than counting on the extra cash.
But everybody has its own way towards financial independence.

Yes. I love my credit union's online billpay and being able to automatically transfer $ to my kids' college saving accounts.
Yes! In fact, I do all of my banking and pay all of my bills on-line. I no longer have a checkbook. I love it.

I like you on Facebook.
(And in real life, too.)

yes
I use online banking because it's convenient and easy to use in terms of transferring money, managing my account, and sticking to my personal budget.
there are people who don't use online banking? even my dad uses it and he is tech illiterate. it is very convenient!
liked on facebook!
Yes, of course. Doesn't everybody :)

I agree totally. I have lived all my life this way. I just see no purpose of buying want when the necessary things in life aren't taken care of.

Bribery made me laugh. The vodka was an interesting idea too.
I feel like such a fool for all the Big Macs I have ever purchased.
