Don't use a microwave! It kills anywhere from 50%-90% of the absorbability of ANY food you eat! It does this by changing the molecular structure from the inside out, so that our bodies cannot attach those nutrients. Frozen foods are also not great, they usually drop around 40%-80% of their original nutrients. Fresh is best, and even though canned foods are in a plastic coated can, and are usually do not look as good as frozen foods, they usually have more nutrition in them depending on how they are cooked.

Use a toaster/convection oven! This keeps the oven bills down, and it tastes far better anyway for smaller things. Yes, you will drop some nutrition no matter how you cook, but almost everything is better than a microwave dealing with nutrition. Most people do not think about why foods can get rubbery in a microwave while they act differently in an oven.

  • Save Money on Shaving With These Razor Tricks   16 years 11 weeks ago

It's not healthy to use the same razor all of the time. So, if you want to go cheap, stubble or beard. Also, if you look around after the hollidays are over, you can usually find stocking stuffer razor refills for 1/2 off or more. So, at that point buy all of them you can get and two handles. This is what I do, and I should be good for the next 2 years already.

  • Stay Focused: 300+ Tips for Staying Focused   16 years 11 weeks ago

I think my problem is more of staying focused and just seeing that path through. I think I am more than motivated enough - it's just that sometimes I lose sight of the goal. I can't stop thinking or daydreaming of what I want to do that sometimes I forget actually doing them. Talk about getting distracted. Thanks for this post for the reminder!

  • 6 Ways to Save Money on Eyeglasses   16 years 11 weeks ago

I googled eyeglass frames and found a great pair from Coach that I liked. I printed out the page, went to my eye doctor and showed him the frames. He said he could order them at the same price and although I felt a little embarrassed going in and asking for the deal, I got my glasses for UNDER $200. Sweet!

As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like having control of my life is what motivates and drives me.  Knowing that I go to work and accomplish things (even though they may not be important in the big picture) makes me feel empowered.

If only I could find a job where I feel like I am making an impact on the world -- then I might be motivated AND fulfilled in my career.

  • Feeling Stuck? 100 Ways to Change Your Life   16 years 11 weeks ago

Ive never participated to an open discussion as such.  I am 25, fired from my security job about 8 months ago. Now i just feel stuck. I'm overwhelm and stuck, all I can do is cry. Ive read some of this thread, and feel that I may have a little glimpse of hope of figuring things out. Don't know really where to start since everything requires money... But I don't feel alone, this might sound selfish and I'm sorry, but it just makes me feel that I might come out of this since other people have...

@nora, you seem like an amazing person, it be wonderful to meet people like yourself. Good luck everyone!!

  • How to Sell Your Hair for Cash   16 years 11 weeks ago

hi, i'm 28, need the cash, have long hair, but did have it permed last year. Half of my hair is permed, the top half straight. WOULD I BE ABLE TO STILL SELL IT? I heard about salons that will cut your hair and pay you for it. Where are they, does anyone know?

Fear of staying in the same place that I'm in now. Whenever I'm feeling particularly lazy or unmotivated, I think of that saying "Insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results." I then tell myself that doing what I'm doing now has kept where I am now. If I want something different, I have to do something different.

That's usually enough to get me to do something, even if it's just coming up with a plan to reach my goals.

When I feel really discouraged and I'm tired or I'm struggling with work and finances I try to make some quiet time for me. I find that when I refocus and take some time for myself I remember how far I've come and why I'm on this path. Quiet time allows me to reflect on the progress and let go of the mistakes.

Sunshine is a huge motivator to me.  If its nice and sunny out, I'm usually in a good mood to do just about anything.  Having a significant other can do wonders for motivation as well.  You can also visualize the end result.  Having a picture of someone else accomplishing your goal or a graph to track your progress helps when working towards a goal.  When you're lazy but you need to get out of bed and get moving, some hopping music always help you get jump started on your day.  If you're really stuck, try getting sometime of hypnosis tape or mp3 that helps retrain your brain to get in the habit of doing things works too.

  • How to Answer 23 of the Most Common Interview Questions   16 years 11 weeks ago

Now if I could only find an employer who agrees with you! I am very good at being an accountant, I can wrangle numbers and balance books like nobodies business but I really suck at sitting in a room being questioned in this manner. I am not comfortable sitting there giving a cookie cutter answer that I have researched and know is the "right answer". I just want to present myself nicely, meet the potential co-workers or supervisors, discuss my qualifications and answer honest questions.

  • How to Deal With Collection Agencies   16 years 11 weeks ago

This is in reference to collection agencies on medical bills. I had cancer back in 2004 and was single then. I had a lot of medical bills my insurance didn't cover so I was making as much on them as I could. The hospital where I had my radiation at wouldn't let me pay them a little at a time as I was having the treatments. They told me to wait and see what the insurance covered. After the insurance paid, the sent me a statement wanting the full amount old because the bill was 3 months old and this was the first notice I had recieved. I set up payments with them and after 2 months they sent it to a collection agency. I spoke to the lady at the collection agency and set up a small payment plan. She did not tell me what the due date was she only said it had to be there every month. I have complied with this and was late only one time and this was back this last november. The lady no longer works for them and the new one is telling me that my payment was set to low and said I had to pay the amount she was requesting. I told the lady I could only pay what was on the original thing and she got mad and told me if I was late once she was upping my payment. Since then my payments are being sent to me late and one month I had payed two months and now she is saying I am 30.00 dollars behind. She is also telling me that I have to pay only the amount she says. I asked her if she was refusing my original payment, she stated she was sending me a profile to fill out so they can see what I can afford or not. Do I have to fill this profile out or do I stick with my origingal payment? And what if she refuses my payment what are my options?

After failing to get into medical school twice, people ask me how I keep pushing forward? I recently realized the answer. I have trouble perceiving failure. I see the failed attempts as life experiences and opportunities that will ultimately make me a better person and doctor. And with the extra time that I am not slaving in medical school, I am saving money and teaching myself about investments and finance. In the wake of every rough patch, there are hidden opportunities!

I set small rewards  for wen I meet goals. I might reward myself with a new shirt for staying on budget for the month or a new piece of cookware upon completion of a full declutter and clean in  the kitchen.

I was asked that, and my answer to the interviewer was, " Hopefully,I would like to be sitting in your position", understandably, I did not get a call back. So I guess that was too overly ambitious?

  • 10 Ways to Cut Waste When Feeding Kids   16 years 11 weeks ago

My son's another who eats like a bird, so we do the small servings.

We do put some of everything on his plate, though, even if it means wasting 3-4 leaves or salad or a tablespoon of curry - otherwise he'd just eat one food per meal.
