Excel is an invaluable tool. Im a senior corporate analyst for a Fortune 500 company, that Excel is the tool I used the most, it simplifies complex tasks, and it's basically how I do 90% of my statistical modeling. I also have a personal finance blog, and I speak to budgeting/spending wisely/saving etc. quite a bit. Excel is an old school budgeting tool, and it's something you can use to manipulate and customize your budget spreadsheet to exactly how you want it....yes this is what people used long before Mint or Yodlee...and many still prefer this.
My friend's daughter did a science project comparing a few brand name diapers to those of store brands. Turns out, Target diapers earned top reviews (scoring higher in quality and absorbency) than the expensive name brands. Target also provides great in-store coupons.
I definitely do spring cleaning. It is totally a necessity for me to function properly, organizationally and mentally. By moving all the winter items into bins, and folding sweaters, to be placed in the upper shelf on my closet, I give myself more space to bring my spring and summer items onto the hanger rack, and also get to dispose of unwanted clothing.
I also like to clean my PC, backing up my files, cleaning up my desktop, and defragging the harddrive.
My car also gets a good cleaning, on the inside out, the whole car gets vacuumed and washed inside out.
Does Mrs. Bairds take a day off on Wednesday and Sunday??? Sunday I can understand, but why no color code for Wednesday? just curuious... thanks for the good tip and information.
That's so innovative! I'm not a knitter or crochet-er, and I've certainly never attempted to make yarn. I had no idea that you could use carrot tops, or onion skins, that way.
Yes, I usually do a HUGE top to bottom cleaning in the spring as well as in the fall and then try to maintain it in between with smaller cleanings. It's nice to be able to open the windows while thoroughly going over every inch of the house in April or May.
Great ideas - I'll try them. I have tried carrot tops as garnish, but prefer to use carrot tops and onion skins to dye wool yarn. The carrot tops provide a lovely bright yellow, and the onion skins yield rust or gold depending how much you use and how long you simmer.
Yes, I spring clean, but it's late this year because I prefer to do it when the weather is dry and warm; right now northwest Oregon is neither! I do it again in the fall. It makes year-round maintenence easier; that's when I find the little things that need repair or replacement.
Besides, it's good to have the house smell so fresh!
My sense of that state of the world is that it's a good time to engage in strategic spending on things that reduce future running costs -- fuel efficient cars, perhaps a place to plant an orchard (or a permaculture food forest), the clothesline or drying rack if that's something you have not yet gotten around to . . .

I am sure that in this day and time their are alot that are cutting back on buying stuff. It is a lot harder for families with children.

No. I don't spring clean. I just clean as I go. Besides I do taxes for AARP and am too busy during spring cleaning time.
