I use MTurk strictly to make a little money to use when I buy stuff off of Amazon. I usually do simple tasks (find an email address, take a poll, some simple data entry, etc) and make a few dollars. I never expected to get rich off the site but it's always nice to have a few extra dollars off an Amazon order!
Well the whole point of this article is that the only way you do profit from MTurk is to make use of the cheap labor you can get. If you are doing the MTurk tasks to scrape by then it's not an effective way to make money.
When I first saw the title of this article, I thought, oh, maybe there is a way that I can increase my payout. Apparently there is not.
Mturk is a big, big waste of time for its users, and I say that as someone who makes $400 off it every year by doing about $1 worth of work a day (which could take 30 minutes to an hour of my day). The ways you describe of "making money" actually cost the workers. I imagine a lot of companies, like CastingWords, could make plenty of money even if they charged $1 per HIT.
Thanks for educating companies and researchers on how to bilk people who are using Mturk to scrape by. I appreciate it.
i think everyone that is underwater should stop making their payments and stick that money in a separate bank account just in case they will work with you on a principle reduction. Just wish the federal government owned fannie and freddie would at least be willing to help those of us that are over 50% underwater now that the value of my house went from 164000 to 65000 and all I did to lose that kind of value is put in a 4000 dollar paved drive I believe the banks and wall street greed caused most of this crisis and they still want me to pay 100% of the money back to them when they caused more of the decline than I did I feel they should absorb some of the loss at least 1/3 they were at least 1/3 at fault why should the banks be the only ones made whole i this situation.
I can afford my payments even after the 20% cut in pay I had to take so they wont work with me or help me. I tryed to get them to roll in my 10000 second mortgage balance into the 100000 i owe now at the lower intrest rate I could get with my high 700 credit score, for a 15 yr note as i still had 15 yrs to go on my mortgage would of saved 200.00 per month X 180 months savings of 36000 everyone would get paid 100% CITIMORTGAGE would not go with that as they said my home value declined to much to be able to refi for that ammount. So now it try to get them to reduce the principle to what the home is now worth or they will get it back as soon as my other house is remodeled so I can get the most out of it then sticking that money along with my payments into another bank account and I will still live in my house till they start the forclosure then I will find a house to buy with the cash that I will have in the bank and SCREW CITIMORTGAGE THEY CAN BURN IN HELL IF THEY DONT WANT TO HELP PEOPLE THEN PEOPLE SHOULD RETURN THE FAVOR TO THEM, FANNIE AND FREDDIE.
IS IT MY FAULT THE BANKS DONT OR WONT WORK WITH PEOPLE THAT CAN AFFORD THEIR PAYMENTS? NO!!! BUT THE BANKS THAT THINK THEY HAVE ALL THE CARDS ARE WRONG. THEY CAN BUT WONT WORK WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE MAKING THEIR PAYMENTS SEEM TO ME THEY ARE TRYING TO FORCE PEOPLE OUT OF THIER HOMES SO THEY CAN GET THE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT THAT IS BACKING FANNIE AND FREDDIE GOOD JOB WASHINGTON LOL SHOULD OF LET THE BANKS CRASH BUT THIER PORTFOLIO WOULD TAKE TO BIG OF A HIT GREEDY BASTARDS IN WASHINGTON ALSO NOT JUST WALL STREET
splitting food 50/50 does not seem fair to me at all. I am 100 lbs boy friend is 350 lbs. Most woman eat about 1/3 of what a man does. So under this assumtion a woman should pay 1/3 of the food cost.
Horizon might tinker a bit with reality here, but my main beef with them is another. Their milk is Ultra-Pasteurized, which means they bring it up to 280 degrees, destroying any beneficial enzymatic or microbial flora the milk might contain. This also means that the milk has a shelf life of six months AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. Keeping it refrigerated along the entire supply chain is extremely wasteful. The real deception in their packaging are the words "Perishable, Keep Refrigerated." This perpetuates more waste and deprives the consumer of the main advantage of Ultra-Pasteurized milk: you can keep it on the shelf. Although Horizon makes no claim on the package that they are selling fresh milk, their use of refrigeration is obviously a ploy to make the consumer believe that they are.
Shame about Wesabe, they had a great product. at the moment I'm using iCashbook Personal. www.icashbook.com. It's easy to use and free. Great budgeting tools as well.
There are many things that are just missing from this picture although it's a much better article about debt settlement then what else is out there.
let me tackle a couple of things first:
-in searching for a DS company, going to the BBB for references is a terrible idea as in some areas they assign an automatic "F" to anyone in the industry regardless of reputation and ethics
-secondly...please please don't borrow money to settle a debt. if a friend or a family member GIVES you the money, then fine, but don't ruin your relationships for debt, you have enough going on already.
OK so being an expert in the industry (I co-founded http://www.mybluechimp.com) I can tell you a few things:
1. yes you can settle your own debt and you can save ON YOUR OWN towards a lump sum, so if you don't have it now don't worry about it.
2. dent settlement is not as easy as just calling the bank and saying "hey take this money because it's all I have." if it were that easy an entire industry would not have sprung up.
3. it is a process where if you are organized in your efforts and know what you are doing you can get "favorable" settlements from the creditors.
Lastly, one negative aspect this article forgot to mention is that you will have to deal with collection calls regardless of hiring a debt settlement company or doing it on your own. Any company that tells you they will stop the calls...stay away from.
The industry is in a midst some changes pending some new regulations that will limit the amount of fees they can charge and how they charge them. honestly I would not pay a company more than 10% of the total debt to settle my accounts (if I didn't know or want to settle them on my own)
Try this if you chose a debt settlement company...try and negotiate their fee haha, I'm sure they are so desperate for your business that you could bring them down to charging you only 10%, the more debt you have the less they should charge you as a percentage.
Anyways, I'm glad articles like this one are coming out that at least did some research before coming out as writers that don't know what they are talking about
I also received a debit card in the mail and it seemed alittle odd to receive a debit card that I had not applied for and from a company I had never heared from. So I decided to do alittle research before I decided to use it. After reading so many compaints it doesn't seem as though netspend is a scam, but it is a complany that is very janky and uses many unfair practices. That's how many companies like this one survives, it gives good service to the majority of it users while still making their money through fees. On the other hand the scam comes in with the other 20 or so percent that they steal money from. I have had a simular experience with another company. They do this to stay in buisness, the customers they have with good experiences refer other people and the cycle continues. Also, to the ones complaining about not being able to get a checking card because of bad credit I don't know what your doing wrong because I've filed for bankrupcy and I have 2 check cards from a bank and credit union.
Actually, that's really great advice! Thank you so much. I transitioned not too long ago into a new position. I went from wearing four different hats to one and have, oddly enough, become less productive. I think I will shift around my work load to make it more interesting. Grant writing gets deeply boring after awhile. Gracias!
And let's just hope my boss doesn't hear my blabbering. :P
I love so many of the 17 Things You Are Missing Out on for Spending Too Much! Its hard to pick which ones I like the best, but:
2. A safety net for unexpected events.
3. The beauty of less clutter.
5. Less stress from the little costs.
6. Ability to make investments when they are undervalued, not when money finally comes your way.
7. Quiting when you want.
12. Less debt.
If a consumer can do even a few of these things on the list, he/she should be in great financial shape.
Apples are not less than $1 a pound and if one looks at serving sizes, which makes more sense than per pound, it isn't as frugal. IE 3 apples for a $1 seems a bit expensive compared to a pound of pasta for $1 which is a good size meal for 3. IE $1 for 3 apples, verses say a box of six granola bars for $2, about equal in frugalness and definately not frugal.
Great idea! When I moved in with my boyfriend, we just divided it evenly without even looking at spending habits. Luckily we enjoyed the same foods and were not excessive with our other eating out expenses.
I too received one of these cards 2 days ago and I cannot believe some of these
commenters are saying it is not a bad thing and no harm was done or that they are actually using an immoral, infiltrating company Most likely they applied for the cards, which is a big difference I too, was shocked and alarmed and thought that a bad joke had been played on me and in my area that is a common thing I am so glad I read the brochure, which mentioned it was an offer and debit card and that I came to the website to further investigate, now I know to shred it and not even bother calling them
I would have ended up with charges myself. What I don't understand is why they would send out to a person who is doesn't have working income. That is pretty stupid of them right there assuming everyone they contact would even be able to give them
money. I am sorry for all the misfortune that anyone has accumulated, but why would
any of you bother not checking into this in the first place. I am glad I used my head on this one. Thank you for having this site available for information and I will be filing a complaint myself.
I love camping... tent camping is the only way to go. I don't have much hints that make it affordable since I never had to deal with the money part of the trips. I haven't been camping in about 10 years and I miss it! What really made it special was getting out into the wilderness and just enjoying the natural beauty of the world.
My most favorite experience was when I went with a group of friends on a 50 mile backpack trek in the Sequoia National Forest here in California. We did the whole hike over 6 days. It was amazing to get out into the wild and just survive on what you brought with you in your pack.
I am shoked when I receive my statements from my insurance company regarding services I have recieved. I have been seeing a podiatrist for Plantar Faciitis for well over two years. he conduct a treatment that first had to be authorized by my insurance company and once it was they paid such a small percentage of the billed cost, I was shocked.
The treatment was billed at 680.00 per session. The insurance company paid 130.00. I did not have to pay anything, thankfully. but when I saw that, I started paying attention. I always recieve these statments from the insurance company for treatment at any facility or by any doctor. My wife, covered under our plan, fell in a bathtub in a hotel. She nearly broke her nose, but was thankfully, just in a lot of pain. The visit to the ER lasted over five hours!
The billed expenses were over $7,000.00!!!! The insurance company paid only 1200! And we had to pay nothing, the hosiptal accepted the 1200 dolalr paymnet as payment in full!
This is what I do not understand -- if the insureance company is able to pay so little and have it accepted - why do people without insurance have to pay so much more!
My dental coverage is not as good. I have to pay 40% of the billed amount. This shuld mean that the insurance company is going to pay more than me, correct? A root canal cost me $200.00. I know it is a bargin based on a typical $800 - to $1000 dollar bill. But my insurance company only paid $80!!!! How is this 60% of the bill if I had to pay 200?
Do we need reform? Maybe, but it MUST start with fair billing!!! Right now - if you and I went to the same ER, at the same time, with the same complaint -- we would certainly recieve unlike bills because the hospital will mark mine up because they will only recieve such a small percentage from my insurance company whereas you will pay the full amount.
this is why health care costs are so arbitrary -- the insurance company only pays what the treatment is worth, not what the doctor charges!
My SO and I maintain separate residences for reasons too long to go into here. We split food costs by planning meals together: hers, mine, ours. We're careful not to "grab n go" with food in each other's pantry for lunches/snacks to avoid messing up dinner plans.
I have a 6% fixed with 22 years remaining. My HELOC is now at 3%. I figured I can pay off my fixed in 1year and 8 months using weekly payments using my HELOC and my regular monthly from regular income. The HELOC will then be paid off in about 6 years just using your spreedsheet.
Thanks.
could you please tell me your procedure? i am interested in selling my hair. thank you
