The alchol content would be mostly determined by the yeast after the sugars are added. Yeast dies when alchol content hits their tollerance. Each strain of yeast has a point where it's kind, can no longer live. Note: Yeast has a very short life cycle, and this is why it doubles so fast. The yeast children have their 2 children, and their two have another 2 (4) and (8) and (16) and (32) and (64) and (128) and meanwhile, in the course of several yeast generations, you've ready to run back to the TV from the commercial break. You might have a yeast that will grow faster if it's a bit warmer, etc.
1) get a passport. 2) fly to scotland with your shovel. 3) Bring bug spray with you to the peat bog.... 4) dig out your peat. 5) dry your peat. ..... yell defiantly at Ireland. Then come back with your peat....now your ready to start.
Absolutely Philip. The only reason america is pushing corn, or anything other then cane sugar is because cane sugar is not an american product. Cane sugar is the most efficient conversion to alchol that is known to date.
A lot of these methods would probably just get you fired. If you're fired, you will most likely have to fight to even TRY to get unemployment benefits, whereas being laid off guarantees these benefits. Being laid off also looks better when you apply for another job. To some employers it even makes you look stoic, that you've been through it yet keep trudging on. I currently work for a crappy company that had layoffs/firings and now works the remaining employees to death. I have been hoping and praying for a layoff due to stess and them trying to pile on another job/shift. Now my boss seems to be building a case to fire me instead. I do good work and they basically have nothing on me except nit-picking about hours, etc. I will be meeting with HR to discuss these issues because I want to clear my good name. If I'm going to be let go, I want it to be because of downsizing, not being fired.
In NY you can get a license to distill this for fuel. I thought about this since I have two silage bags wasting for three years on my property...(yum...silage bag ale). This is amazingly simple, however, you have to poisen the alchol and make it unfit for human consumption. ouch.
Corn meal, and other starches are converted to sugar at a point called the break point. It's when they boil for 10 minutes or so. This is the process that breaks the starch to a sugar that the yeast can eat. The danger in corn meal is that it might clog your equipment, and could even cause an explosion if it gets into the still. It's also a pain because it's harder to clean, etc. In the old days, my neighbor in NC, a federal employee himself, lol, would actually scoop this meal out and put in fridge and cook and eat after fermenting for a good week, I dont know the exact schedule, lol. Or give to one of the neighbors pigs. His shed was a small home brewing and distilling kitchen....lol. As a post office delivery man, he could make several delivers along the way.
It takes far less corn meal then sugar, as the corn meal expands when cooked. You also want the slag to settle, so, cook your corn meal, and add water to get it wattery. put a little cane sugar in there, since this ferments the fastest, and increases the yeast population fast. But not too much, as the taste will be diffrent.
For the beginner, pure cane sugar is far safer and cleaner.
fyi: ..treat the corn beer like it is cheap...dont worry about any of this "beer" being wasted, any meal in your equipment puts you in danger of explosing, from clogging.
Also this appearently increases your odds of having idiot children, your 16 year old daugher will run off with a 35 year old man etc.
Also...throw away the first shot glass from the still, and the last. It's just how it's done.
Also plant a garden next to the shed...a watched pot never boils. Get yourself a timer, and check on cooking progress every 10 minutes or so.
This is known as freeze distilation, and yes, it is also illegal.....but who's to say you accidently let it freeze....opps...my bad. We've all accidentally froze beer....and no one is in jail yet.
Frugality can also be a goal in itself since it means you are less distracted by material possessions, which gives you more time and energy to spend on what is important. Monasteries still think that giving up the grasp on material things is vital for living a better life, odd as that may seem in these more materialistic -- and less spiritual -- times.
The really thick rubber bands (that sometimes hold asparagus or broccoli bunches together) can make cool bracelets. Just decorate with a magic marker and show it off. :)
To manage your business from the road, you need an infrastructure to keep things going well. For starters, you probably need a phone connection, Internet access and an e-mail functionality. As an independent contractor of a place, I have my own systems in place to do business, but my way is not the only way. So I asked a few other independent contractors who travel full time despite their own strategies for operating a business road. Lea Woodward began his independent career there in 2007 and has traveled the world with his work since. She and her husband Jonathan run Kinet, online marketing and brand consultancy. In 2009, they had a girl, and hit the road when she was four months to continue their nomadic life and business.
thanks greenish! your comment made me feel not so bad. I am considering getting a big house for just me and my dog. its over 2000 square feet and now that i am able to get a place, i really want to. i have lived in laundry rooms, garages, on couches, in my car (i was a broke college student/homeless before) and now i am really excited on getting a place with SPACE! i feel guilty but yknow. i think i deserve it.
If your local radio station has a swap-shop type program, that's another great way of getting it out to the masses. Check with the station first to see if you can put your yard sale on for free, or if it's a paid advertisement (some stations charge a modest fee, since newspapers do the same).
Hey, nobody mentioned ginger beer or ginger tea! A nice, cold Stewart's (or most other brands, except Reed's) ginger beer has enough carbonation and bold ginger flavor to wake you up real quick! Without caffeine! Or, a hot cup of ginger tisane when it's cold outside is fantastic, especially when homemade from fresh grated ginger.
Ginger (consumed in many forms) is quite stimulating, without the downsides of caffeine (particularly in the form of coffee, which can be hard on the gastrointestinal and reproductive systems). Of course, ginger has numerous medicinal properties and uses, most of which are documented in the book, Ginger: Common Spice and Wonder Drug.
LOWERING you available credit drops your credit score! NOT good advice. If you can't control yourself - DON'T carry them, freeze them in ice, put them in a locked box and have a trusted friend hold the key. NEVER carry a balance! If you don't pay interest every month, you can actually put some money away for the emergencies you have put on cards in the past! Easier said than done, right?
Try a spending moratorium - For one month - gas, milk, and bread only - if you have kids, critical spending only (lunch money). Eat the groceries in your pantry. This is very hard but you should have a few hundred at the end of the month. Now decided how much (besides groceries) you really missed!
Thank you for letting people know about how to fix their report for free. Frustrates me no end that so many people (in Australia anyway) do nothing about it or pay over the odds to get it fixed. We've got more info on how to do it here
Funny. I don 't use shampoo anymore, because it tangles, has sulfides and removes too much of my natural oils. I use conditioners only to wash my hair.
I use less detergent with 40 Mules and vinegar in the rinse cycle. Everything comes clean. But, I never though of using no detergent. It's interesting to know the difference between detergent, soaps, astringents, et al.
We use cloth napkins only in our house and I only use 40 Mules and vinegar on those. Nice. Thanks for the article! Now, if I can only convince the kids to use less.

You already have the equipment in your kitchen.

yes...this is what my NC neighbor did....he'd also taste the mush...and make sure he liked it before letting the yeast have any.

I write checks for bills and some services but I stopped using check at stores years ago.

SinusBuster pepper nasal spray helps me a lot.

Our church started electronic giving this year. We appreciate the convenience, and now write no checks on a regular basis.
That said, for something like getting a passport, checks were the order of the day.

I really like this post. Such quotes can be both inspirational or entertaining - or both!
One additional one I like: "Rule #1 is never lose money. Rule #2 is don't forget Rule #1" - Warren Buffet
Very true for managing your finances.
