  • 8 Vile Craigslist Scams to Watch Out For   11 years 2 weeks ago

I received the nearly identical emails below regarding some furniture I wanted to sell. I'm thinking they're scams.

Thanks for your reply; I appreciate it, I'm okay with the price and I'm ready to buy from you plus I'm going to add an extra $30 just so you can have the furniture kept in my favor as I understand I may not be the only interested buyer; just something I picked up along the way. My mode of payment will be via Check and it will be sent by FedEx Overnight delivery. I will be responsible for the pick-up (pickers will only show up at your location after you have your payment), and in addition the movers’ fees will be added to your payment so as to avoid needless delay; they will schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up after you have your payment as I have other properties waiting to be moved alongside yours. Will be great to just come in person and examine what I’m about to buy but my work schedule wouldn’t let me nonetheless I trust the details provided is sufficient; conversely, more pictures will be deeply appreciated just to satisfy my fiancée. Should you agreed to sell for me; I will need the name you want written on the check and the address you want the payment sent out to, your cell phone will be appreciated too (I’ll call you as soon as I can). Many thanks

Hi, Sorry i'm afraid i just checked my daily/work schedule and coming to view won't fit due to a busy work frame but would appreciate if you could email me pictures. I'm fine with the condition/price and willing to add an extra $20 to reserve it for me and avoid other buyers. My form of payment will be via business or personal check which could be cashed instantly or deposit for clearance and after that we could proceed with the pick up arrangements so you can be rest assured. I would be responsible for the pick-up as i have other belongings to be moved alongside and to avoid any delays, the movers/pick-up fees would be added to the payment.. If you're okay with the form of payment kindly write back with necessary details (name, address and phone # to discuss further) so i can make out payment asap via FedEx or USPS next day delivery .

I defrost my frozen bread in the microwave. I have a 1000 watt microwave and I put the bread in a plastic bag or the bread wrapper without the tie for 4.5 Minutes on level 3. I also defrost two to four slices in the microwave for 20 seconds on high. The slices are warped in paper towel.

Our first pediatric dentist suggested cheese as a snack vs. crackers (which get stuck in the grooves of teeth). So my kids have grown up knowing that they can always grab a piece of cheese if they need a quick snack.

He also told us to choose chocolate over hard candy/lollypops, because chocolate doesn't stick to the teeth, while hard candy/lollypops bathe the mouth in sugar until the candy is done. The more you know...

  • 10 Things You Should Always Order on Amazon   11 years 2 weeks ago

I'm a Prime member and I also continually scan prices on Amazon and my local stores. Many times I do buy things from Amazon but it all depends on the product and specific brand. With toilet paper it is much cheaper to buy Scott brand toilet paper from Amazon (esp if you use the Subscribe and Save option). There is also another article on this site that has the top things NOT to buy from Amazon.

  • How One Family Lives Well (And Even Owns a Home) on Just $11 an Hour   11 years 2 weeks ago

Yeah try buying a house on 11 dollars an hour in New Jersey or anywhere in the northeast United States. You might be able to get a bridge to live under in New Jersey for 101,000. The property taxes would break your budget though.

Libraries offer DVDs along with books for free entertainment and edification. And I agree that they should focus on increasing their income stream and restore their emergency savings. Wish we could see their monthly spending broken down into categories like food, utilities, and such. But kudos to this young family for staying afloat.

My dad has hemorrhoids and my mom takes baby wipes (Huggies), she cuts them into little squares (about 2in by 2in) and puts witch hazel on them.
I put a pad on my acne and let it sit for a couple minutes. It helps reduce the swelling, the redness and it brings it to a white head.

I am fortunate and blessed in so many ways. Since I've retired, I've decided to focus my skills, energy and time on family and volunteer work. I usually have several projects underway on any one day, but I am always open to new adventures.

I didn't even know about passing both salt and pepper when only one is asked for, interesting. And I ALWAYS say excuse me if walking in front of someone at the store, it just makes sense. Anyone who takes offense to it is just a jerk lol I'm glad I was raised to have manners...sadly, not many are anymore.

  • 37 Ways You’d be Better Off as a Bum   11 years 2 weeks ago

For each homeless person there's a different story and situation as to how they got that way. For the majority I would say it's not a choice to be housed, especially single women and women with children. Mental illness is no joke, neither are addictions, lack of shelter space for DV victims, women and families, UNaffordable housing (MA, $2K to $3K for an apartment), and the city and state officials who allow empty apartments in housing projects and around cities to stay that way. No one in this situation is better off, they are people not animals. If you don't want to take my offer for coffee, water or food I'm okay with that, because I made the effort. After awhile you learn who panhandles for a living and who might really be in a serious jam. Usually there are places around a city to have a hot meal or a sandwich, maybe no place to sleep but usually there's always food.

We're talking about the basic life needs of food, shelter, and warmth according to Maslow.

Another use for unused eye shadow is to turn it into your personal homemade nail polish. Simply crush the eye shadow into a powder and add to a bottle of clear polish, shake well, and that's it! You can add glitter, sparkles, etc. for a customized polish.

  • How One Family Lives Well (And Even Owns a Home) on Just $11 an Hour   11 years 2 weeks ago

Eh, not really. Common sense tells me they spent the $1500 on the mattress alone, not on new bedding, given the description of their spending habits in the article. And I doubt they opted for a new box spring...most people don't. Maybe some new pillows, at the most. So yeah, a $1500 mattress, while luxurious to sleep on, is a bit extravagant. I'm all for it if that's what they want to spend their money on, but don't make it seem like it's a frugal, money saving decision when it's just not. There are cheaper, just as good options out there, mattress-wise.

I love to volunteer whenever I can! I used to volunteer with autistic adults and children in the summers! There are so many wonderful volunteer opportunities out there that really need help. My mom has put in over 5000 hours at our local hospital.

I volunteer each week at the local food bank. I've never been in a situation where I've been unable to feed myself or my family, and I can only imagine how difficult that would be. The amount of donated food that gets distributed through the food bank is really impressive, and it makes me very conscious not to waste food when I'm at home.
