  • 17 Things Car Salesmen Don't Want You to Know   10 years 18 weeks ago

I find your response totally incomprehensible. First off, nobody is saying car salesmen shouldn't make a living. We just don't want to be ripped off. Of course, you don't negotiate over a coffee purchase. But I bet - even you - negotiates over a house purchase. Get your apples and oranges straight
I'm going through a painful process of trying to get quotes over the Internet but car dealerships are getting smart. They won't provide a quote - I must go into the dealership. They say they don't want to "upset the marketplace". Talk about collusion.
For all you poor salesmen who profess your honesty and integrity explain this to me.
The car I wanted has a mrsp price of $28,400. Using Unhaggle.ca I find the dealership paid way less. The sticker price at a local dealer was $39,000.
Oh I feel so sorry for you poor salesmen who are being bullied by awful customers who actually want to negotiate.

  • 25 Things You Shouldn't Buy at the Grocery Store   10 years 18 weeks ago

Alot of these you would have to make a special trip for. And if you're only going for one thing and it's only slightly higher, I say it's worth it to just grab it. Great idea for the health food store for spices. Never thought of that one. Also farmers markets are great! My area doesn't have a very good farmers market, but there's an awesome Co-op where I'm moving in a couple months!! :) thanks for the ideas!

  • 56 Life Hacks to Help You Win at Winter   10 years 18 weeks ago

It's amazing to me having grown up in Chicago, how many people completely forget or ignore everything they learned about driving in snow in the winter. The one rule I think everyone should learn, know and practice is to give yourself plenty of time so you can arrive at your destination safely. Most of the accidents I see on the toll roads and expressways are caused by people driving too fast for weather conditions. Even if you have four wheel drive on your vehicle if you hit a patch of ice, your going to lose control. Do the math; 4 x 0= 0 and nothing is going to change that equation.

I can confirm GapBuster as legitimate and a pleasure to work for. Assignment payments are negotiable for me due to where I live and the area I cover. The one thing I would say is that our service is valuable and I can see that it has am impact on certain businesses I've visited.

  • 6 Reasons Cutting Your Landline Is a Bad Deal   10 years 18 weeks ago

I know this is an old comment and article, but if you actually read the article, you'd notice it didn't only talk about major emergencies (which are not necessarily the "apocalypse"), it also talked about being located when you call 911. This is a real thing. The cell phone companies will not upgrade the technology in order to be able to locate people within 50 meters (if it even calls the correct 911 service to begin with) so if you live in a more densely populated location, it may be too late before they can locate you. Sometimes what you call "fear" is actually something called thinking ahead.

  • 10 Things You Should Never Buy at the Dollar Store (and 10 You Should)   10 years 18 weeks ago

I agree....The brands in the medication aisle are mostly put out by Assured...which is a dollar tree brand. It is Not expired medicine. They have their own distributers here in the US so it would not be legal to sell counterfeit medication. I use ibuprofen, a decongestant, and a sleep aid that all work as well as walgreens. I cannot tell the difference. I still have Alot of kitchen utensils also that were from Dollar tree.

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Save Money on Valentine's Day?   10 years 18 weeks ago

I definitely don't put a lot of weight on Valentine's Day - I'm more likely to make homemade cards for friends than buy any presents for a significant other.

  • You Won't Believe How Much the Average Person Spends on Salon Visits Each Year   10 years 18 weeks ago

Amen! Hubby trims my ends and bangs, too! Try rainbow research henna as well. There are more options than red. I use the dark brown one and my hair looks shiny and awesome. It's the best thing I've ever done for my hair. No more harsh colors.

  • You Won't Believe How Much the Average Person Spends on Salon Visits Each Year   10 years 18 weeks ago

I don't even spend close to this! I visit beautician 1 -2 times a year and we do henna at home. Waxing lip and eyebrows costs about $20 and I could see having that done every 6 weeks, but the rest is ridiculous. Hubby does hair trimmings in between and I use JASON shampoo and conditioner. I also use 1 bottle of Kukui oil a year which is only $6. My hair looks better than when I would spend $200/visit for color, highlights, etc. Go natural and forget about all these silly services.

  • 8 Ways Valentine's Day Picks Your Pocket   10 years 18 weeks ago

My husband and I are having a cozy Valentine's Day at home, making dinner and dessert and watching something on Netflix. Years ago, we did the expensive Valentine's Day eating dinner out and buying chocolates and candy. We have a family now and realize that Valentine's Day is just another money maker for places to charge more for dinner, chocolates and cards. I got a card from the Dollar Store 2/$1 a few weeks ago for hubby.

  • 7 Modern Reasons to Visit Your Local Library Today   10 years 18 weeks ago

I do research at my local library. They have free Ancestry.com and other genealogy sites. They also have local records and obituaries from local newspapers on microfiche. • 13 Natural and Easy Ways to Lower Your Blood Sugar   10 years 18 weeks ago

We learned a lot and there were some helpful things that really worked. Our housemate had his blood sugars up around 500 plus but wouldn't go to emergency room. He had been drinking Tang and pop a lot that day as well as bologna and hot dogs. Not sure what else but 2 days later his sugars are down (we went and bought diet pop which he liked just fine, and sugar free Kool-Aid and Crystal light which he never knew the difference). He ate a lot of eggs, cheese and we pushed the water. When he started feeling better, he was able to at least move around the house and even carried some groceries in. Just that much exercise helped. We have been using cinnamon in sugar free apple juice which was like a miracle in bringing his sugar down. The honey tea, and almost all on here has helped so much. I didn't realize about the fact that insulin levels affected sleep, and with insulin resistance and high blood sugar, you don't sleep well. He always has coffee at night and also going to the bathroom because of his high blood sugars keep him up a lot at night. So no coffee tonight and hopefully get him on track. He is supposed to see his dr. Monday (it's Friday). He is a bit afraid of dosages on his insulin and I think needs more guidance as we do. Your article was SO helpful and even though a lot of people think internet medical advice is wrong or unreliable, your article helped us save his life in my eyes. Not everyone will go to the Dr. or ER and so we relied on good advice and yours was. Thanks so much.

  • 23 Hidden Costs of Buying an Old House   10 years 18 weeks ago

Despite all the drawbacks mentioned above, there is nothing better than historic homes. Mine has wood beams, leaded glass windows, phenomenal built ins and (real) hard wood floors, etc. Or you can buy a new home, choosing from two or three floors plans and different shades of tan everywhere. No character, no personality, and boring, boring boring!i
