Bananas $1 to $2 per lb? I've always known bananas to be 69 cents per lb.
My parents immigrated to the US from Germany (and became naturalized US citizens) in 1954. They lived through the challenging years of WW II Germany. Frugality is so ingrained in them that to this day they will buy off-brand mac & cheese for 39 cents a box, split it, calling it a meal. Another meal is sharing a 99-cent pizza.
At age 19 I went out on my own and lived on ketchup spaghetti. I would splurge at times by adding ground beef. This was before ramen noodles. But today I love my fresh fruits and vegetables. I will even buy a relatively expensive fruit like passion fruit, papaya, mango, or guava just to experience the exotic. Thank goodness I can afford such gifts of nature.
Good list! For #22 you might also mention Ting - you bring or buy a phone and then just pay for the minutes/data/messages you actually use each month. I've been averaging about $16 a month so not too bad.
Daycare worker.. You watch 20 to 35 kids a day, sometimes 12 hours each day, some come in hungry, their clothing and blankets smelling like smoke or weed. Bruises and hungry for attention. And there isn't a damn thing you can do for that kid at home to make their life better. You can only make their school life as amazing as you can.
We were stunned that our IAMs cat food (dry original) is significantly cheaper at our local Target than our local Walmart--like almost $5.00 a bag for the big bag--around $17 (and change)compared to $22 & change. We have 4 cats, so that savings really adds up!
I'm working on fixing things whether it be small sewing projects, minor house repairs, or other. Maybe it is also a small part of an anti-procrastination self-improvement plan too.
I'm determined to get rid of at least one school loan of my husband's so that we can buy a home for our family. I plan on doing thag by budgeting and analyzing our spending.
I went threw a real estate agent when buying my home thinking I'd be safe from scam this way , boy was I wrong. The agent drew up the documents that claimed all taxes on this property we're current meaning no back taxes right? Wrong I just got a letter for a court hearing next week where I'm more than likely going to lose my home because of there scams. I bought my home dec 2013 . . If I don't pay 2013 taxes by the hearing I lose my home , if by a miracle I do get the money 2014 & 2015 are to follow immediately. I'm at a lose this home is everything we have.
My resolutions are to go backpacking at least three times, lose at least 20 pounds, and pay at least an extra $10,000 toward my girls' 529s and my mortgage. If I do all three, it will be an outstanding year.
To stop procrastinating
