My resolution is to try at least one new and different thing each month. I want to push myself out of the ordinary and humdrum this year. Even better is finding things to try that do not involve money.
Young people today have no manners and their parents are lacking too. I wish they had to take a mandatory class in school on Etiquette. We have some very rude children and adults. Social interactions are important to being successful in life, so teaching our youngsters how to behave is invaluable.
OMG!! Absolutely word-for-word I received the same texts via ruthvb7@gmail.com. Called hersef Ruth Shelley. Word for word I kid you not. Fortunately I did not cash the check and have been reporting this to any and every agency I can. I am so angry that I too almost fell victim.
No one ever talks about the budget killers and I'm so glad that you wrote this article. For me my number one budget killer is number 4 and that's because it can be rough with so many things coming at you. But to deal with it, this is what I started doing back in August. I try to get as many of those annual expenses (e.g. dental, optical, medical, driver's licence etc.) and split them up over the year. So, if my optical expense is $110 per year, I would allocate $10 each month towards it, so that when it comes up, I should be able to pay for it a bit more comfortably. For the ones that just pop up out of the blue, I just cover them with my emergency fund. It might seem a bit crazy, but it works for me.
Laura - you're correct. Insurance will cover work to remove a tree to enable the repair of your home or other property. But as for reimbursement for the value of the tree itself, usually not.
Exercise equipment (like treadmills) is another thing to always buy used. You can pick them up online (ex. Craigslist) for FAR cheaper than you can buy them new.
A word of warning about buying used clothes and furniture though: Watch out for bed bugs! Just because someone has a big nice house or a really clean house doesn't mean they don't have bed bugs. When you buy something (ex. a sofa) you may be bringing the infestation to your house which can be pretty costly to remedy.
