Bank Teller. Very high stress, lots & lots of responsibilities, LOW pay, and virtually non-existent raises. Long work days and hours, and the list goes on.

  • Debit Or Credit? Which One Should You Choose At The Checkout?   10 years 30 weeks ago

Some prepaid cards only work as "credit"; for example my FairFX card (issued in the UK but denominated in US dollars) isn't accepted as debit but is as credit. I didn't try to use my normal UK debit card in the US but I suspect that that wouldn't have been accepted as credit either. Though I did try to use a UK debit card in an Amsterdam railway ticket machine and that was only accepted as credit, not as debit.

In the UK, of course, everything uses the PIN (or contactless up to £30). The merchant's fees are different for debit and credit cards, but you don't usually get asked which you're using. (The exception is places like travel agents that charge surcharges for credit cards to cover the fee.)

Why omit your previous info regarding GMO's? That is equally important info. I made dinner rolls using coconut oil instead of corn/canola oil. They turned out just as delicious. I also substituted the milk for coconut milk. Almost vegan dinner rolls. Yummy.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Shop Black Friday Deals?   10 years 30 weeks ago

I do but do not go crazy with it. I spend Thursday with family and would never run out to a store to go shopping on that day even though Black Friday sales at a lot of stores start Thursday now. On Friday I go shopping but at my leisure.

I only shop on Black Friday via online. I don't have the patience or motivation to go to the stores!

  • The Pros and Cons of Autopay   10 years 31 weeks ago

I'm a bit against autopay. Like you said, it's so easy to get out of touch with my bills when I'm not manually making my payments. I avoid late payments, for sure. But I guess I just prefer being the all-seeing eye in my finances.

  • 17 Ways to Use Thanksgiving Leftovers   10 years 31 weeks ago

How come I didn't see an option to donate the food to the homeless? There are always plenty of leftovers and it's never a bad idea to share food with people who actually don't get to enjoy thanksgiving like the rest of us do.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Shop Black Friday Deals?   10 years 31 weeks ago

I don't typically shop for Black Friday deals because I'm not fond of the busy-ness of the stores and the general chaos. I also prefer not to just buy things because they're cheap. I prefer to spend the time with friends and family, maybe watching a movie or going hiking.

  • 8 Green Products That Aren't   10 years 31 weeks ago

I agree with the Aveeno - especially their baby line. I was given a bottle of "Aveeno Baby Essential Moisture Shampoo" in 2010 as a social media reviewer and when I tried it on my toddler son, he immediately broke out in a prickly, crusty rash that looked like bad eczema. Since he had small bouts of eczema previously, I assumed that's what it was. Turns out that many Aveeno products also contain polyquaternium-10 or polyquaternium-15 -- a known carcinogen that is also a skin irritant, causing dermatitis! And dermatitis looks just like eczema. We threw the bottle out and his rash went away almost immediately.

This may be the first time I've ever used this phrase, but WTF??!!

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Shop Black Friday Deals?   10 years 31 weeks ago

No, I don't shop Black Friday Deals. I've had to work plenty of Black Fridays and I don't really like crowds, so Black Friday doesn't really have any appeal to me.

  • 10 Depressing Jobs That Aren't Worth the Money   10 years 31 weeks ago

One of the most boring jobs is housekeeping because you earn the small amount of money. Belief me when I say, it's the most depressing job for a human being to work for that kind of a job. Hotel services or maintenance is so embarrassing especially when you know deep inside that the company you are working for pay less than it earns. My advise for everyone who work for this kind of a job to resign or let it go of that company because you will always be in stress and being depressed. Most those employees who work in those companies, some of them end up stealing within the company, because they don't earn what they want, even if they request for increase they don't get it at all. It takes a lot of time for some to get promoted or an increase within industry or job. Before applying for a job think first what kind of the job do you want, then apply for it, but be very careful when applying or first make some research before everything so that all may go well with you

  • 9 Times Choosing an Unpopular Color Will Save You Big   10 years 31 weeks ago

    Hi Amanda!

I think it's possible to have a wardrobe of bright colors & look great every day. (Look at Michelle Obama as an example). However matching colors and patterns is actually a rare talent...which is why textile designers exist. It might help your mom if she teams up with a friend--who has a personal style that she admires--to go through her wardrobe with her and make up a bunch of outfits using the clothes she already owns.

Most people, even people who wear mainly neutrals, don't shop for new clothes with their old clothes in mind. This bad shopping habit is just more obvious with people who love color. I have an extremely small wardrobe. In order to make it into my closet, a new garment has to match 90% of my existing wardrobe, otherwise I don't buy it.

When I was a personal shopper, I used to dress customers and then take a polaroid that they could reference later. Sort of like a human paper doll. There are now apps for this. It helps take the stress out of getting dressed in the morning if you've got 30 good outfits that you can repeat over and over.

And yes, you can have all the baby blue. All of it.

I do not plan to get up at 4 or 5 a.m. on Black Friday; that is one day I can sleep in without an alarm. Sometime during the day, if weather permits, I will go to Ace and use the 50% off coupon I received as a rewards member. Also after comparing Black Friday ads online for True Value, Lowe's and Home Depot I may do some searching for discounted tools at those places as well. This is the best time of the year to get tools! But I am not shopping on Thanksgiving Day and I will definitely avoid the local mall, that is just too crazy!

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Shop Black Friday Deals?   10 years 31 weeks ago

I have every year but this year I feel so drained and tired I'm not sure I will. I already bought some clothes from Express online and will probably just do some online shopping for Xmas gifts.

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Shop Black Friday Deals?   10 years 31 weeks ago

All my Black Friday shopping has been 100% online for the past few years. It seems like a lot of retailers are marketing their "pre Black Friday" starting as early as Wednesday. Personally I've bought items this Wednesday than I would of thought. Or maybe I just lucked out....
