In my recent post Plan for expensive fuel, I mentioned sustainable fuels in a somewhat dismissive fashion. I'll have more to say about that eventually, but in the meantime, I wanted to link to Rolling Stone magazine's excellent article on the limitations of ethanol as a replacement for fossile fuels:

When I first heard of Doug Marlette, he was an editorial cartoonist with The Charlotte Observer. He accepted an invitation to speak to high school students and personally demonstrated the craft of cartooning to those of us interested enough to meet him personally after his talk. For me, he drew a caricature of then-presidential candidate Jimmy Carter and signed his name on a piece of notebook paper.

In case you haven't heard, and chances are that you have, there are only 7 days left to vote for the NEW 7 wonders of the world. The competition allows people from across the world to choose from 21 monuments, narrowed down from an original list of 177 in 2005. The goal of the vote is to redefine the original seven wonders, which were established more than 2,000 years ago by Greek scholars. You can vote on the n7w website, or by phone.

I just spent $1200 on a facelift for my dog. Before you go telling me that I should be put down, let me explain that it wasn't elective surgery. My dog is a Pekingese, and say what you will, I don't think that there's much you can do to make a Pekingese look "good". I mean, I love their ugly little mugs the way they are. The clip zoomed in and out, scrolled up and down, and even changed orientations without getting married.

Update:
Dell has apologized! Richard from Dell has informed us that not only is Dell apologizing to the Consumerist, but Dell will also work on reforming some of their more confusing pricing practices. Great job Richard. Thanks for relating to us as fellow bloggers instead of potential litigants. We like you a lot more than the lawyer lady. I don't really think your CEO plays WOW, though (I need some screen shots as proof).full story

While surfing the web for some research on a "serious" Wisbread article (to be published soon), I ran across
this guy.
His "job" is to visit Irish pubs. All. Year. Long. Drinking Guinness (I'm a Guinness girl, myself).
I could get used to a job like that.

This continues from "The Cost of Meat—Too High To Pay." The Personal Health Argument attempts to show that there is few, if any, benefit from eating meat. This will cover heart disease, cancer, and calcium intake.
While the meat/dairy industry would have us believe we need both in every meal to have a balanced diet, many studies have shown a high correlation between meat/dairy consumption and major health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Significant decrease in health problems have been associated with moving to a plant-based diet.
