Google lecture hall

I recently found an amazing (and I don't use that word lightly) resource from Google that I think is completely under-used and seriously under-marketed. This resource is called Google Talks and it contains over 170 fascinating lectures, given to the very lucky and privileged Google staff, most around 1 hour long.

non slip jacket

Recently a very good friend of mine told me about a mishap that involved his 8 year old son, a Wii remote and a large, expensive flat-screen LCD TV. Needless to say he wasn't happy. And it turns out he's not alone. Several people have reported problems with the Wii remotes, and as my wife recently got one I've also been a little concerned. Fortunately Nintendo is a great company. They have invented a rubber non-slip jacket for Wii remotes, and they're giving them away free to current owners of Wii systems.

What to expect

A quick 'deal of the day' for you, and it's a great one. When my wife and I were expecting out first child we read "What To Expect When You're Expecting" from cover to cover. When the baby arrived, we quickly turned to this book. It's wonderful, it's well written and you can get it absolutely FREE.

10 FREE trees from the National Arbor Day Foundation

light forest

It's not too often you can get a great deal and help mother nature at the same time. The National Arbor Day Foundation is giving away 10 free trees per household, including free shipping, when you become a member. Admittedly membership is not free, it's $10, but that's a small price to pay for such a worthy cause. You can choose from 10 flowering trees, 10 oak trees or, in my zip code, 10 Colorado Blue Spruce.

To get your free t-shirt, just click this link and fill out the very simple form. In a few weeks, you'll have another free t-shirt to add to your collection. Enjoy.

Did Office Max hire an accountant with an I.Q. of 62?

Dunce

I think I may be losing my grip on reality.

Recently I received four coupons in the mail from my local Office Max. Two coupons were for $10 off a purchase of $10. I'm not the best number-cruncher but I figured that meant I got two $10 items for free. I was right. I strolled into Office Max, picked out two $10 items (pack of batteries, paper supplies) and after tax the grand total came to around $1.40 for $20 worth of product.

Feeling Poor?: Things I Forget About that Don't Cost a Thing

Stack O Dough
Here in America, we're rich. Sometimes, I hear that and file it in the same place that I filed the eat-your-dinner-there-are-starving-people-in-China lines from my childhood (I learned, early on, to smile and say, "Great...can we send them this?"). But it's true. We have the dubitable priviledge of managing our money, simply because we have more than it costs to buy our basic food and clothing. In our everyday lives, we have so much that we forget about. Here are a few of the hardest ones for me to remember.

haggle market

What makes a Wisebread reader? Why are you guys so, well, special? I sat, I pondered, I scribbled down notes furiously. This is what I came up with. It's a small list, just 30 entries. I have a feeling you crafty folks will have more to add before the week is out. So here we go.

Dumpster dive

Well, I say frugal but some of these cross that line from frugality into something less honorable. But hey, live a little. We all have to try new things sometimes. And they’ll all save you a little money, a little time or a little frustration.
