  • Six Months as an Amazon Seller   16 years 8 hours ago

I really enjoy selling on Amazon. I have been selling books there on-and-off for a few years. I actually just sold a book called 'coil winding' that had been sitting on the shelf forever, and it got me a good amount of money!

Don't bother with low-balling. Often times a book will sell that is more expensive if it has a good description, as opposed to those that write 'great customer service' and that is it.

    Great post.

  • 5 Ways to Minimize Baggage Fees When Flying   16 years 9 hours ago

    @LKA Mom
There are a few advantages of traveling with infants and this is one of them. I think if you're brave enough to travel with kids you should get unlimited baggage :). For the last five years we've made international trips with our kids every year.
Oh, here's a tip. If you can make your baby cry at the baggage counter they probably won't mess with charging you if anything is due.

    @GT0163
Great tip. I think a lot of people have access to discounts they don't even know about. It never hurts to ask if there is a discount available.

I've sold books on Amazon for about five years now after two years selling on eBay. The fee structure is much better on Amazon and the daily maintenance is much lower. When a book gets down to where my profit margin is too low, I use a paperback trade site to trade what I have for something else. Very often I can find books of higher value in a good enough condition to sell. More often I find something I'd really like to own!

Some types of splurging don't even have to throw off your budget. Craving a new book or dvd? Local libraries are getting better at stocking the newest DVD's and are, as always, a great resource for, ahem, books. For me, just going out and picking up something tangible is a great way to avoid impulse spending.

  • Skills That Can Save You Money Part 1: Parallel Parking   16 years 10 hours ago

That was a great article. I am 24 years old, and the first time I was ever in a car with someone that parallel parked was earlier this year when I was visiting a friend in New Jersey and exploring Philly. It was not on my drivers test, so I didn't think it was important until I was driving around Downtown Philadelphia looking for an open space at the end of a block. I truly feel confident than I can do this in the future without fail. Thanks!

  • 15 Wonderful Uses for Witch Hazel   16 years 11 hours ago

I have a problem with underarm odor, and do not want to use aluminum products on my skin, so I accidentally discovered that using witch hazel will help rid me of the odor (even when soap and water won't work)! What a great find for me (and others around me when I couldn't find ANYTHING to help me! I didn't mix it with anything - just put it on a washcloth and used it like soap!

    Linsey,

I did not know this about soap. I have been so clean around the house and have use agressive soap to wash our kids hands. I am taken aback.

    Thanks

  • Are You Saving For Your Child's College Education?   16 years 13 hours ago

My husband says that we should not pay for the kids college education because we do not know what kind of relationship the kids will embark on. If our kids decide to get married to someone who has a large student debt, then it is not fair on us that we spend years scraping and saving to pay the kids college, and then the kids have to help payoff their spouse's loan. He suggests that instead, we should put aside that money and if the spouse does not have a loan, then we payoff the kids loan

    Interesting viewpoint. Comments?

  • 5 Ways to Minimize Baggage Fees When Flying   16 years 13 hours ago

Here's a trick we use when you're traveling with kids: we check our daughter's car seat (which is free for most airlines) in a car seat bag which allows us to add a couple of things in the bag. In fact, our last trip, we fit most of her clothes in a small duffel strapped into her seat. Same goes for strollers. We checked our stroller in a stroller bag, and all our shoes/boots and outerwear were in the bag as well. We were basically able to get the equivalent of a checked bag for free.

  • netSpend: The Story of the Visa Debit Card We Did Not Apply For   16 years 14 hours ago

I too received a NetSpend Visa card. I had something around 7 dollars on it. I bought a 6 dollar game online, that ended up charging me 7 dollars, leaving me with one cent on the card.
I don't mind, considering I didn't sign up for it. I use an AccountNow card that I actually did request, and don't believe NetSpend to be a trustworthy enterprise.
I just received an email (from "netspend@netspend.com") asking for all my information (F/L Name, Card Number, CCV, security question AND answer, etc.).
I don't recommend NetSpend to anybody. It is not a secure form of e-currency.

  • CitiMortgage Told Me to Default on My Loan   16 years 15 hours ago

Me and my girl, a young couple, living with my parents and sister in a small one-room apartment. We're both learning at the university, I have to finish next year. In Moldova, it is very difficult to find a normal job, average wages were eating enough even a single person to live. Parents have often reminds us what we want to have to live for yourself. Favorite very upset about this and suffers. I very much love my girl, tried to work several jobs to at least rent a room, the money earned on them and go for services and for the food lacked. In our country, unfortunately, impossible to live without the help of parents. I tried many times to take a loan to buy an apartment and live there with his beloved. But here, all the banks and private firms were denied due to the fact that I have nothing to leave on bail, no decent salaries, student and many, many others. reasons that they could not give me credit, mortgage is the same. Because of this, a lot of young guys are leaving the country and move abroad, in order that would at least like it, equip your life. Due to the fact that the rented apartments went into debt. To buy the same one-room apartment needed money, which we can not ever earn here, for us to 30000 euros is too much. If you had this situation or you have the opportunity to help us, we are very grateful to all of your financial aid.

  • Dealing With Debt: Credit Counselors   16 years 15 hours ago

I am new to this site and I wanted to post a comment about my experience with a debt settlement company. I just completed a program with Elite Financial and they saved me over 70% of my debts. Although I have seen my credit score suffer because of the program but that is nothing compared to the amount of stress that has been eased. I saved almost $37,000 over the last 2 years. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone that needs help. here is their website - www.efs-debtfree.com

  • How Not to Buy Too Much   16 years 16 hours ago

    I especially like 1, 6, and 9.

    1. I like because I think it's great to create good barriers and tear down bad barriers. By creating a barrier to getting to your money (making it more difficult) you're less likely to spend it! Great!

    6. We love living in the moment, and as a result we often make stupid financial decisions. By giving yourself the time to think it over, we'll often realize that it's not necessary, or that "the moment has passed." There's nothing wrong with spontaneity but there are always frugal ways of being spontaneous.

    9. I think this is a great idea. The spin that I especially like is the idea of borrowing things from friends. It ends up being mutually beneficial. It can help your friend by knowing that they're able to help you out (maybe a favor they can cash in on sometime in the future), and it helps you out because you didn't have to spend money. Win win for everyone!

    This is a great list.

  • Things You Should Know About HAFA: The Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program   16 years 17 hours ago

Obuma Hussein has done absolutely nothing for the little guy. The BANKS got money - OUR MONEY, the car companies got money - OUR MONEY, but when it comes time to help out the little guy, Obuma Hussein would rather spend it on things like fighting the Arizona law which only does what the friggin Federal Government should have been doing all along. Obuma Hussein is a has been that never was, but he is ruining this country. I say we should start IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS IMMEDIATELY!

  • Six Months as an Amazon Seller   16 years 17 hours ago

I debated that when I had a couple of books to sell. I went with Amazon since you don't pay the listing fee until it actually sells. From what I could see, I had to pay ebay upfront to list, then a percentage of the sale.

What I liked is that with Amazon, they pay Amazon and then Amazon gives you your cut so you don't have to deal with that aspect.
