We found out the hard way that the roadside service offered by AAA is not nationwide. It is good for our home state only. That's something to keep in mind when weighing the pros and cons.
Great article! I couldn't believe the unemployment rate was so low until I thought about the census. At least people are temporarily working, but I heard payment for a census collector is really poor.
Money management is so important! I wish high schools would teach seniors about what to expect once they're in college. I remember getting bombarded with credit card offers but I knew they were bad ideas. These are all great statistics too! I'm glad that most people in my age group are spending their money wisely and saving more.
Great article. I wouldn't think about putting money away if I were to get injured, but it would come in handy. Hopefully I would never need to use it though!
I bought Magic Jack two months ago for a second line in the house/occasional business line. I purchased mine from Wal-Mart for $40. This thing is a piece of junk in my opinion. I understand it works well for some, but not for us. I got it set up...pretty easy installation. It seemed to take about 24 hours for it to "kick in". I plugged it in to our desktop, that has a wireless router. When I did get a dial tone, and made a call, the wireless connection on our laptops would drop. This happened so many times, so I "live chatted" with an agent online. FOR FOUR HOURS. The customer service agent did not understand what i was telling them, they had me try to make calls, which obviously disconnected the internet connection! The customer service is obviously outsourced, as the grammar was pretty bad, but hey, that's life today, right??
My husband went online to some forums, and found out that a lot of times, the MJ will NOT work with a cordless phone less than 5.8 GHZ. My phone was not 5.8. So, I went out and got a new phone. Still didn't work. I decided to get Vonage. I've had them before, and never a problem, and $25/month is still a great deal!
Vonage attempts to port my number over to them. They still have not heard from Magic Jack about it. Three times they have contacted MJ to port the number over (I only cared about the number because I already printed business cards with that number!!) .
The last time I called Vonage to check on the number portage, they said that MJ told them there was no record of that phone number or account with them. So now, I have MJ forwarding my number to a virtual telephone number Vonage gave me, which is then forwarded to my phone! Sheesh! I have contacted the FCC about this and also my state utilities commission board. I wish I had NEVER bought that stupid MJ, and just got Vonage (or something similar) in the first place. What a waste of money.
Nice blog post on a new search engine for new and used cars. I had not heard of Autotempast.com before your article, but I will check it out now.
Information is power and the more info you can get on buying a new or used car, the better position you will be in as a consumer. I recommend buying used by the way to get maximum value out of a depreciating asset. In addition to the purchase price, your insurance should be lower for a used car and if you are in a state with a car tax, these taxes will be lower too.
Another similar site that's pretty great is Trovit (http://cars.trovit.com). They have this type of 'specialized search engine' but for more than just used/new cars. They also have homes for sale or apartments for rent AND job offers. All with the idea that you're searching listings all over the web, in one location.
I like it. It's easy to use and there are some great tools.
Don't forget - never buy used safety gear - like motorcycle helmets - just like the infant seat in the example above - there can be microscopic fractures from previous incidents the current owner doesn't think of as serious that would fauk exactly when you need it the most.
I found the water bottle recommendation intriguing -- I have several to accompany me on cycling and biking trips, and my husband uses these to refill at work; not something I thought of as a tip but a natural habit...until volunteering at a homeless lunch/party last weekend manning the drink table, and noticed that a couple of people had bottles to refill at will, a few made makeshift containers (out of empty 2-liter drinks or gallon jugs), but most just kept coming back for refills distributed in small amounts. Not sure about the mechanism for keeping it clean but I thought it would be a wonderful item for the homeless to have for easy water refills in the summer heat.
Re #36, no need for a rubber band. If you have animals or small children who unroll the toilet paper, simply put it on the holder so that it unrolls from the back. A paw or a small hand will roll it forward.
2nd post, nice! I wish San Francisco was more biker friendly... we have a big movement out here called "Critical Mass" which gets kinda ugly with thousands of bicyclists once a month jamming the streets.
Being offensive is key b/c if you get hit.. well, doesnt matter if its their fault, you're either dead or in a world of hurt.
Very good and articulate article. The unemployment figures baffle me every time they get released! What do they really mean and why are the experts and markets going crazy over one part of the data (datum)?
Thanks for the info...we have been searching for a few months now for a good used SUV and are pulling our hair out (at mostly the prices, ugh). I just passed this on to the husband and i can hear him in the other room typing away. Thanks again!
You could use that for a while. It will last as long as the porcelain coating is in tact. You will get chips and bare metal where you cut a hole in the lid. These will rust, rather quickly. You mentioned Kroger's. That seems to be in the south east US. There is a chain there called Old Time Pottery. They sell large lobster pots for cheap. Cheaper then the pot you were looking at.
my fav drunk food is toast, toped with grated cheese floavoured noodles (usually bacon) and chopped up ham/chicken - whatevers in fridge! if im feeling really adventurous i might even put some bbq sauce on there too.
This is great advice. It is much easier to address finances when financial paperwork is in order. The beast just isn't as big or inimidating when it is pulled out from the stack of papers and put under a light. Excellent post!
I have used Witch Hazel for 2 years now. Twice a day as a toner. I am 56 (soon to be 57) and people don't believe it. I have few lines on my face. My face is clear and the skin is soft and looks good. I have found that name brand witch hazel works better than the store brands-feels better and works faster. I am going back to Dickinson's as soon as I finish this other bottle.
I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be
sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with
everyone. The initiative taken for the concern is very serious and need an
attention of every one. This is the concern which exists in the
society and needs to be eliminated from the society as soon as
possible.

I have a weird attraction for vintage drawers. I have a small collection of drawers from old sewing machine cabinets... the faces of the drawers have unique designs. None cost more than $10, but some were free. I've found other kinds of drawers on the curb, such as a small drawer that had painted lettering indicating it once held old small tools. Larger drawers can slide under a bed. My neighbor screwed drawers to her wall to make a book case. I have to confess, however, that I first collect the drawers because they appeal to me. They have interesting hardware or other features. Once I bring a drawer home I have to justify it's place in my house. So I find something to store in it, which is kinda backwards.
Wow, I guess you missed the point of the article altogether. Sorry to learn that you don't know how to read. I didn't say anything about black people versus white people. When I refer to Seattle's ghetto and seeing people buying terrible amounts of junk food, I'm not only talking about black people - just the urban poor, be they black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native.... You'll see the same thing in Everett for that matter. Bad food is cheaper, so really, it's a frugal choice to buy it, and that is partly the fault of the way that the government subsidizes the crops that are used in junk food.
It's not that there aren't skinny poor people or that there aren't fat rich people - we're talking about averages.
Too bad you didn't read the article - you got as far as the "ghetto" comment and started freaking out.

I have the same problem. Have you gotten some suggestion yet? If you have, please post and please cc: a copy to me at ster108@gmail.com. Thanks.
