  • How to complain and get a good result.   16 years 7 weeks ago

Only recently I made one complain to a company. I was getting tired of spending money in shoes that would break two weeks later for no reasons. I wrote a polite letter with a couple of pictures (more of a theraoy than anything else actually!) and mailed it, not expecting much of it.

A couple of weeks later, I had a letter of apology and a brand new pair of shoes sent to me. Seriously.

I believe if you have a valid complain, most company will try to help.

    Great tips!

I lived in Korea for a year - and while it may not be a blue zone region, people there tend to live to a ripe old age... I was very healthy there because of a few things that you include on this list: (1) fewer processed foods to choose from - more vegetables, fish, in the diet; (2) I walked everywhere; (3) moderate alcohol intake (when averaged out ;) ).  Also a magical dish called "samgyetang" - ginseng chicken soup probably extended my lifespan about five years!

Red grape juice also contains a great deal more simple sugar than red wine does - fine for the average person, perhaps, but harder for diabetics like me. Alcohol has really stopped agreeing with me as of late, so I've cut back significantly; it's just funny to me that what is considered the norm in so many places is considered a problem here in the US.

  • How to Make Moonshine   16 years 7 weeks ago

    Zorcy,

The Penderyn welsh whisky site is well a worth a look. It has a few pages regarding their still; a pot still with a seven plate reflux column as far as I can make out. And peat-flavouread and oak-aged as well. I'm halfway through the "scotch" thing. Fermented a home-brew beer stout kit (boosting it up to 15% instead of the 5%);  then double distilled it. Should be the equivalent of a malt whiskey.Got a nice block of seasoned oak and grated a few ounces of it into a saucepan and toasted it until it was nearly black. Am i doing this right? And likewise with a bit of peat, to give it the scotch whisky flavour. Added about a good tablespoon to each bottle. It's only been bottled for a day, but it's starting to take on a whiskey colour already. Do I need to flavour it further, with sugar or vanilla or so on?

  • netSpend: The Story of the Visa Debit Card We Did Not Apply For   16 years 7 weeks ago

I Just Recieved A Netspend Debit Card With My Name Already On It.. I Felt It Through The Envelope And Figured It Was The Credit Card I Had Applied For And Been Waiting For. But When I Opened It There Was No Bank Name Or Logo And All It Said Was Visa Debit... I Have Never Heard Of Or Interacted With Any Such Company As Netspend So To Find A Debit Card With My Name Embossed To It Was Quite A Surprise [Not One Of Those Fake Cards With Your Name Printed That Visa Sends With Applications, A Real Card With My Name Embossed] So I Decided To Google This Company And See What This Is All About... I Have No Clue How They Got My Name, Address Or Any Information On Me What So Ever. Especially Since Im Assuming The Mass Of The Customers Who Recieve These Cards Have Probably Dabbled In The Credit World. I'm Only 18 And Have No Credit, Just A Checking Account. So I Have No Clue How It Is That This Company Got Ahold Of My Information But Im Kind Of Upset About This...

We are Netflix people - Love it!

When you count the JUNK you tend to buy when you go to the theatre, we probably save about $75 a month! Thanks!

Red grape juice contains the same anti-oxidants as red wine. I still enjoy an occasional glass of wine, but I don't feel obliged to drink wine for my health.

  • 8 Truths From a Mystery Shopper You Must Read Before You Get Started   16 years 7 weeks ago

So happy I found this site! So glad I see that my decision to pursue mystery/secrect shopping is a good one (even though I haven't started a job yet.)  I've been doing mag merchandising for going on 6 months now and I feel so blessed to have found a gig that suits me and allows some independance and freedom from corp/office/downsizing threats etc.  It's not full time and thus I needed something that would help bring in more moola but provide the same independence and I think this is just the ticket.  I am committed to never allowing some higher up to decide my employment fate again.  I am also pursuing freelance information broker services as well as taking classes in grant writing.  I don't expect to become wealthy let alone rich, but I do expect to have more control over my income and also the time to pursue the many humanitarian efforts I've dreamt of, and time to attend to emergencies should they arise, and time to write, travel and live.

Sorry for getting so carried away but I am so excited!

  • How To Cut Car Ownership Costs   16 years 7 weeks ago

Always buy a car at least 12 months old (older if you can) because most of the depreciation will have already been swallowed up by the original buyer. I have got some great 3 year old bargains and I would never, ever buy new again!

  • Power9: 9 Habits of the World's Healthiest People   16 years 7 weeks ago

It's funny - I used to drink a glass or two of red wine per night, and when my doctor asked how much I drank and I told her, she expressed concern that I was a borderline alcoholic. Moral? Don't tell your American doctor about the red wine you consume, I guess. :)

  • 3 Reasons Not to Invest Now   16 years 7 weeks ago

It actually doesn't matter when you start, it's all about actually starting to save. As long as you can put away a little bit each month then you will soon be into the habit and that is the hardest part.

  • 3 Reasons Not to Invest Now   16 years 7 weeks ago

i think that the best reason is the one that you have given as the first one. Many people get into the investing world just because they have a wad of cash burning a hole in their pockets and then they start complaining when they loose it all. All the best books on investing have always thumped this maxim into the readers heads that they shouldn't invest unless they have a somewhat strong financial education base

  • You’re Fired! 20 Signs That a Pink Slip is Coming   16 years 7 weeks ago

I would have, but instead, I took all of my written reviews and wrote rebuttals and explanations next to the comments. One time, I did go in to meet with the main boss and he was very nasty when I told him I was confused about the reviews, and he was very nasty... right after that meeting, I wrote the  date and time we had it, plus the fact that I no longer felt comfortable asking questions that might improve my performance on account of feeling as though I would be crucified if I did.

I will bring these, plus more positive reviews from other superiors and other evidence that my performance was not as bad as they were saying, and use them to file a grievance... I will not go down without a fight! I now have 4 months of evidence, plus evidence saved from before December, to have a strong case. Who knows, I might even get him fired too if I have a strong enough case that I was being treated harshly and unfairly =)

  • You’re Fired! 20 Signs That a Pink Slip is Coming   16 years 7 weeks ago

You should have found another job and quit if you saw the writing on the wall in December.

  • You’re Fired! 20 Signs That a Pink Slip is Coming   16 years 7 weeks ago

I had 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 to an extent, 8, 9, the top hocho at 12 for some reason understandable only to himself and the subordinates that are his buddies, 14, 17, 18, and 19 (My mentor's reviews of me were positive, so of course they had to find a reason to stop having her do written evaluations on me fast) PLUS having the boss pin his mistakes on me. Yep, I found out my contract is being nonrenewed this past Friday, and I saw the writing on the wall as early as the beginning of December, before ever getting the performance review that read like a train wreck. Trust me, once your  main superior decides he does not like you, your head WILL be put on the guillotine.

    Very impressed.

Seems like there are common traits among the successful. Don't multi task. Plan your tasks. Never waste time while at work. There are a lot better things to do then watch TV.

Lots of other gems in there though. Thanks for the resource.

  • How Big of a House Do You Really Need?   16 years 7 weeks ago

thanks very much for the info. I was struggling to make a decision to or not to build a big fancy house. I have three girls and a big house can be ok for now, but later when the girls have grown and are out of the house for which ever will come first - school or marriage , i will be left with a lot of space which i would have to maintain but do not need or use. I think this article gave me the answer. Thanks again.

  • 80 Ways to Steal Valuable Minutes for Your Work Day   16 years 7 weeks ago

It was mentioned in the post, but to me, planning the next day is of utmost importance.

I have about one hour in the morning to myself.

When I plan it out, I get everything done I want to.  When I don't, I always finish that morning feeling ike I wasted time.

And this is only for one hour of my day!

Imagine if you did this for three hours, or for your whole day!

  • Where to Shop Your Goods: Survey of Online Marketplaces   16 years 7 weeks ago

I think Amazon is the best for selling, and Ebay is the best for buying.

Amazon is much more easier to get set up on to sell, much easier to understand, and so forth.  It has its liitations versus Ebay, but I prefer it greatly.  Especially for beginners.

To buy stuff,  Ebay has got to be the king.  Everything is for sale on Ebay!!!

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Watch Your Movies?   16 years 7 weeks ago

I watch an instant watch movie or television shows on Netflix about 3-4 times a week. With the hard copies it depends on what movie I have, and how much i want to watch it, or watch something else on my queque. Apart from Netflix I watch television on cable via my DVR, or if I forget to tape it on the site Yidio which typically has shows up commercial free on the night they played which is faster than Hulu. I only go to the theaters when my friends are going, and I REALLY want to see that film, otherwise its mostly Netflix

Why do I need a Brokerage Account? I have a couple thoudand dollars so I can probably do more than an DRP or just an index by itself. This information implies other advantages to a Brokerage Account but I am new to this and dont understand. Can't I just drop my several thousand into an Index fund and forget about it? is their a more aggressive option for me?

  • Free Shopping at Walgreens   16 years 7 weeks ago

This last person to reply to the comment must've read it wrong, because yes, while you can keep the coupon-item ratio even, what the person above was saying is that if you purchase 1(one) item, that you can't use a register reward AND a manufacturers coupon on the SAME item... you can use a register reward and a weekly ad coupon, and you can use a manufacturers and a weekly ad coupon, just not the register rewards and manufacturer coupon together...

That being said, I see a lot of people who use (and abuse) the register reward program, and its a great tool to get what you need cheap! it can really pay off. I've seen people with $100 of merch walk out paying less than $10 and having an additional $30 in register rewards for the next week to do it all over again with the new sales.. just gotta clip and keep those manufacturers coupons!
