As a legal layperson reading this article, I didn't believe that it was supposed to represent a majority of attorneys, any more than an article about bad CPA's would represent a majority of accounting firms. This was an informative article about the pitfalls of legal representation, and much HAS been written about what recourse is available. Don't take yourselves quite so seriously, and please don't confuse approachable with unprofessional, lawyers can be very intimidating. BTW, did you know that Rogets Thesuarus lists "shyster" as one of their selections in the lawyer category? Now that's stereotyping!
This is an excellent article. Back in April 2009, I purchased a Mac Mini, 2GB, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD for $579 and chose to upgrade the memory and hard drive myself to save on the overpriced upgrades. I agree with you above the overpricing (Apple lovers ready don't care, so it seems).
To answer Brian's comment #4 - if you upgrade the memory, the graphic's shared memory bumps to 256MB. He must be one of those Apple lovers.
Also, it's funny how Linux users lurk around Apple and Microsoft topics. I tried Linux and there are serious problems with hardware drivers (wireless, video, & ethernet - Ok, I'll stop now).

Pete: Nope. I have the funds for all of that, what it will do is help replenish the emergency fund. Or, to be more specific, make our cushion more comfortable.
you forgot: COKE CONTRIBUTES TO:
OBESITY
CANCER
CONSUMING MORE COKE (the acidic, sugary taste does not quench thirst, it stimulates the thirst response)
DIET COKE CONTRIBUTES TO:
CANCER
MS SYMPTOMS
LUPUS SYMPTOMS
OBESITY ( statistically, diet soda drinkers gain just as much weight as sugared soda drinkers)
mmmmmm, let's go get some coke!
The company kettleproduce in fife scotland use chlorine to wash there carrots, they sell the carrots to supermarkets sainsburys, tescos and marks and spencers.
People who work at the company have been having nose bleeds, I found that this could be possibly linked to the chlorine.
There's no way anyone can tell the difference between bottled water and filtered tap water. It's water.... BESIDES, who drinks water for the taste? We're not talking red wine here...water is simply to quench thirst. That's all. Gulp it down and save a few bucks.
Just wanted to add another vote for buying a used car from an individual!! For example, our last car was a van (added baby #3 and three car seats don't fit in the back of a sedan, as you know). First, I researched Consumer Reports at the library and chose the year/models based on those (particular years of the Odyssey and Sienna). We ended up finding an Odyssey that was newer than we expected with decent miles (for the price) on Craigslist. We paid for the van with our tax refund, we've had it for about 2 years now (purchased it when it was 8 years old), and never had any problems.
I've only every purchased vehicles from individuals. Talk to the person to learn about the car, how it 'behaves' and how it's been treated. The key in the discussion is to not be shy. Of course it also helps to live in a decent-sized city, so that you have options available.
Just another two-cents. Oh, and I would buy Hondas over just about anything (we also had a Civic which was awesome awesome).
I was thrilled for J at Budgets are Sexy to include my article Financial lessons of a cheese pedlar in the carnival and I continue to be surprised after finding it here on one of my favourite sites, Wisebread.
Thanks for including the round-up of the carnival here -there certainly are some great posts in this collection.
As a veterinary technician,
Dogs and cats -cannot- digest raw vegetables. The cannot break down the cellulose in them Also how do you even know if this "dog food" is nutritionally balanced? It's not.
Our cat passed away because of melamine poisoning. Our dog didn't seem to have kidney problems because of tainted food but she had had seizures her entire life. It was getting to the point where the vet wanted her on medication. It's not that we trying to neglect our dog but we want to try and change her diet before we started drugging her. We quickly started cooking her food. She hasn't had a seizure in years. She is 14 and going strong. I will never go back to buying dog food. We just save all of our scraps and add it to her food.
Thank you for the post!
For almost a year now, I've been doing a mixture of ground turkey, brown rice, mixed vegetables, and Blue Buffalo organic food and Orijin which is completely without grain. The reason for the mixture is that my vet pointed out there are millions of dolalrs spent on research for giving dogs the best healthy alternatives with dry and canned food. However doing human-only food was something he warned me about since humans are different than dogs. My dogs have lost weight, feel better, and are much more active because of this balance. Above all else, check with your vet for their input - this is why they went to school for so many years.
Thank you for reading the post Roxanne, I didn't say it was worthless. What I said was the bill's true design is consumer enablement and consumer protection is secondary.
At the end I said as much by posing this question:
"To be sure, these new rules may be a good crusade, but what many or perhaps not enough are wondering aloud, is whether the new rules will encourage the same behavior that made them necessary in the first place."

Great article...it would be great if you could get a tax credit for this. Just wishful thinking!

I guess it's never too late to comment.

Wouldn't the smartphone itself cost you a bundle, though?

WC isn't that $8000 going to be used on moving expenses and buying furniture or fixing up your new house? You will not likely keep it in the end.
