I always have trouble with #20. Followed to the logical conclusion it leaves the negative people with only other negative people and even they are trying to purge each other. It becomes a little bit Darwinistic or like animals that let the sick die as they trek across land. I get not being a doormat or a glutton for punishment but holding this as a value the cult of individualism that is unique to the west. One could argue that a famous Semite was put to death for hanging out with negative people and not following this advice.
Here is some good advice for new tires. When you can, buy a whole set. Don't trash the old tires. Keep your good ones. I had good tires except for one, it was plugged too close to side wall, so I eventually bought a new tire set and kept the other three good ones. One blew on my new set today. Now I am down to two spares to mount. It will save you money in a long run. Tires aren't cheap these days.
These tips are fantastic for any hiring process. The tip to wait a few weeks only works in high turnover jobs and will not help in any way for jobs without high turnover as mentioned. Though a lot of these tips success depends on the person doing the hiring and how much electronic presorting they do to begin with. Sometimes you won't even have a chance at an interview from a work history angle, and will be presorted out. This won't be avoided for the most part by hand delivering it as many companies will tell you that they have an online application.
'Tis better to have loaned and lost than never to have loaned at all? In other words, I've lent money that really helped people and been repaid, and I've also lent money that I never saw again.
If someone regularly hits you up for $20 (or more!), this person has a problem and you may be enabling rather than helping. You should also get any loan in writing -- seriously!
Lest you think I'm just a big ol' Grinch, let me assure you that I have agonized over such loans. An article I did for Get Rich Slowly on this very topic garnered more than 200 comments, so plenty of people identify: http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2011/09/12/how-much-do-we-owe-others-a...
And more how-to-lend tips in an article I did for Money Talks News: http://www.moneytalksnews.com/2013/11/25/tired-of-loaning-money-to-frien...
I want to correct you on "Decrease in Credit Longevity" section of your article.
A closed credit card account in good standing will remain on your credit report for 10 years and as long it is reporting to the CRA it will be factored in your Average Age Account (AAOA.)
Also, If they do ever pass some kind of tax law that would tax my roth, they would need to give some lead time to which then I can pull ALL my money out of the roth and put in somewhere else.
I'll agree with you about the pet stroller. I used to volunteer at our local animal shelter, and one of the things we enjoyed doing was putting cats in the stroller and taking them outside. They really loved it! Some cats you can train to walk on a leash, but we didn't have that kind of time to teach every cat in the shelter to use the leash. But we never found a cat who didn't enjoy a stroll along the dog trails in that stroller!
Why the need to title this article "20 Decisions You'll Never Regret Making" when you list 21 (there are two number 3s)? Good article with good points, glad we got an extra one.
Usually for Mother's Day I just spend the day with my Mom. We get dinner or something pretty simple since she thinks the holiday is sort of silly.
This year we (my sister and I) did something different, about 10 years ago my mom became a diabetic and now has to have an insulin pump connected to her all the time. She has to have pockets to keep the pump in so she had to give up wearing dresses because she had no where to hold it. So this year we got her a dress with customized pockets that will work with her pump.
The freedom that comes with no debt must be extremely liberating. I am currently digging out of debt with my husband and cannot wait until the day where I don't have to pay on any debts and my money can finally be mine!
Ack! This may be a little too hard to follow when: a) you only have enough decent clothes to last you a week and b) you live in a tropical country - such as the Philippines - where you start sweating buckets a few minutes after you just took your third bath for the day. Hahaha.
All I can say is this:
I live in a rural county that had a corporate dairy farm. It was HORRIBLE - the smell, the pollution, the condition the cows lived under. All was hideous. And we are an agricultural county, so we are all used to dairy industries. The business finally shut down, much to the relief of the entire county. Many years went by, and Horizon approached the county about purchasing the farm. As you can imagine, there was not much support. Who wanted to go down that road again after the land and surrounding watershed had finally eliminated a horrific source of stench and pollution? But purchase it they did, and the turn-around was astonishing. They contracted with local farmers to grow organic feed during the phase-in because the fields were so highly polluted it took more than the 3 years to establish them as organic. They judiciously managed the disposal of manure. They rotated their milking stock on pastures with non-milking stock and pregnant cows so that even though the total cows on the dairy far exceeded the original farm, they were dispersed throughout hundreds of acres instead of concentrated only in the milking fields. Horizon has been a good neighbor from the start. Cows graze in lush green pastures instead of slogging through fields of manured mud. And YES, the cows do look happy! You bet I purchase Horizon products.
Turn down your thermostat by 10 degrees F when sleeping in winter evenings. Use a space heater in your bedroom instead of heating the entire house.
Turn down your thermostat by 5 degrees F at day time in winter. Of course you will feel cold if you wear a T-shirt and a pair of shorts. Wear sweater and a pair of jeans. You will be warm.
Turn up your thermostat by 2 degrees F at summer time. Most Americans keeps their home cold (not cool) in the summer.
Do not buy any clothes for a year. Your closet is full of clothes which can last for 5 years. This will save you $2000 a year.
If people start taking their money out of these banks the rates will go up really fast. Look at what they charge on credit cards, but they think we should just keep our money in their establishment for basically nothing. Take your money out and go to a credit union...send them a message!!
My mom and dad are far away, but I don't want them to feel left out. I buy their birthday gifts and mother and father's day gifts all at once, wrap them and ship them in one box.

You can often borrow chargers from the hotel reception. They usually have a bunch of chargers that previous guests left behind!
Ouch. Still says 20 in the third paragraph. Good article.

Thanks for catching the error, Andrew! I've corrected the numbering. =)

Hairspray on an oil stain on cotton shorts has saved my shorts! Cheers
I always try to win my mom items for Mother's day!
I like almond butter and put 4 prunes on top

It's not a frugal tip, but it's for mom :)
My kids make homemade cards and bake cookies

We celebrate frugally by staying home and making a special dinner. No gifts required
