I usually get a thoughtful card and handmade one. I also cook a meal with all her favorite dishes. This is inexpensive and can also spend some quality time together.
I don't think I've ever seen so many different ways to use an ice cube tray. I don't think I'd want to have the herb cubes after the cat food has been in there.
I freeze most of these same things in ice cube trays, plus more--coconut milk, salsa, canned chopped green chilies. Once frozen, the cubes of whatever can be popped out and stored in freezer bags, freeing the tray for the next use. This way, I don't need many trays. Tomato paste freezes fine in 1-tablespoon dollops on waxed paper; then they can be plucked off into a freezer bag.
You're welcome! As more and more companies are paying attention to Twitter, they are becoming more adept at implementing deals and coupons through the platform. The deals from American Express are very easy to take a hold on!
I totally agree with this, recycle and repurpose. This is truly indeed helpful. Well I am a crafty person, I used to have some recyclable materials as room designs and other household stuff. Cutting coupons is also effective. I had once cut an ad in a newspaper in which you can avail the $59 rate for 2 hours with free clean on the 4th day of cleaning as long as you have that coupon from the newspaper.
Wake up early! Yeah, I'm guilty. I got a lot of plans and schedule in terms of cleaning, but when I wake up the next morning, it seems that everything is unattainable and I have the tendency to postpone. But this tips are great help. I should concentrate at one room at a time so that I won't get tired thinking of the things that I haven't done yet.
We always go hiking with just the siblings and her and then had a picnic in the park where we hiked. We also buy an inexpensive gift that we know she will love. Last year we bought her a gym back with different types of workout gear and a workout outfit. It was something we knew should would love and use. That's what we make sure to always do and look for - something that shows thought, not something that is flashy.
Since my Mother is older and it is harder for her to bake, I make my mother's 3 favorite sweets, Sour cream pound cake, pecan pie bars, oatmeal/pecan nut cookies. Then I cut them up & place them in (serving size) freezer bags so she will have a box of assorted goodies to pull out of her freezer when she wants something sweet. She ADORES this gift and has hinted that she would like to have this at the Holiday time too!
So glad you mentioned Dr. Bronners! I love their liquid almond soap and it has been my go-to for showers for years now. If you purchase the gallon and shop around online for the best price, it is actually a bargain as it is super-concengrated. One addition to this list is Etsy which features many sellers of homemade, genuinely wholesome, fairly-priced natural beauty products. Greenbubbleshome, my favorite Etsy shop, is a Nebraska-based shop which makes many wonderful products I have been ordering for a while now including a fab aluminum-free baby powder solid deodorant as well as super-concentrated laundry powder.
Bad idea re: gift cards and paypal balance. Lose all of the CC protections and perks. Some of these seem a bit silly and not likely to do much...understand how things add up? Read a book instead? Make it harder to type in #'s? If people could do this, there wouldn't be a spending problem in the first place :)
Excel spreadsheet - 2 columns. Left = expenses/must have's. Right = wants/extras. Let the program add things up and keep a running tab..know your max for the month and compare all numbers. Easier to keep an eye on a budget if its a simple page with actual #'s updated compared with what's "available." Also - one column for things "to buy" - keep a list, refer to it and buy 1 item here and there when the budget allows, then delete that and any others you decide aren't necessary as time passes. I find my list gets reduced after a while when I realize I don't really need the widget...and am more likely to "Save up" for the item or 2 that I see on the list I really do want/need/will use.
CC's have great tools to show you what you spend in each category. Every 3 months we DL it and see where we can do better.
I once had a shopaholic friend get 2 CC's. One for "musts" and one for "wants" - might work for some people.
My last three buys all were Waterford Crystal! Each was less than three dollars!! I found a cashmere sweater for 2.00, and Banana Republic complete leather outfit for 20.00!! Sadly, passed up a Monet, later to find out, I looked at it for $5.00, did not like it that much, and was told later, someone spoke up, and they pulled it from the selling floor..My new passion is thrift shops, GoodWill, and Hospice thrift and Sheriff's Ranch....
Yes! I've used and loved Dr. Bronner's since I was a kid. Thanks so much for mentioning Etsy as well. Good stuff there.
We celebrate it frugally by staying home and having a nice meal.

I cook my mother a fancy brunch!

I like Target they have a good selection!

Ecard and a phone call. I wish my mom were closer so I could have her over for breakfast!
A nice breakfast should do the trick and I like to go to the park with the family.
We have either a homecooked dinner or low-key take out at my place. And lots of karaoke.
I give my mom a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the grocery store (not the florist) and a pretty card.

Vitacost is cheaper than amazon & whole foods

I use Resturant.com for meal and flower promotions from Facebbok.
Out of the 6 things, I find remembering names to be the hardest. Will check out that Forbes' article on how to get better at it.
Didn't know we could actually save money using Twitter. Thanks for sharing this great tip.

I look for coupons that restaurants send out prior to Mother's Day!
