I cut the cord over a year ago and have not miss a thing. Everything is online now. I'm not a big sports fan but I do like football and I was able to watch football on local networks. There's really no need to have over 100 channels and paying all that money.
Even if you miss a few games, or you're not able to watch your show as soon as it airs, in reality you'll not miss anything.
My oldest daughter is scheduled to graduate high school this year, and cost was a definite factor in the college decision process. However, the greatest lesson we've both learned is to look beyond the "sticker price" of tuition, R&B, etc and check to see how the school is endowed and what cost-saving opportunities are available through the financial aid office. By doing this, I am pleased to report that my daughter will be attending Barnard College in NYC (a pretty expensive college), on a full scholarship that includes books, travel, and R&B because she and our family meet the criteria for a program geared toward out-of-state minority students. She also applied for 12 outside scholarships, and has so far been awarded an additional $1500 to cover any other expenses. LESSON: Do your research and don't count expensive schools out if they provide the education experience your child wants/needs.
Thanks for sharing this post. A lot of times I thought that wealth and happiness cannot be mixed but it looks like they can. It is a matter of having the right attitude to make sure that your wealth will not get in the way of your happiness.
I just signed up three days ago in NYC. There are thousands of places here to Gigwalk, so it can be a full time job here. Once you complete two gigs, they promote you to a 5-gig max and depending on the client, once your submission is approved, you can do 5 more, and you can get the payment to Paypal within hours, and to your bank from Paypal in 2-3 days, so if you're not lazy, it can be well-paying.
Both Lyft an Uber have just launched in the city where I live. I've been driving for Lyft for a few months now. I make the most on Saturday nights. But I have met other drivers who now drive for Lyft or Uber as their full time job. If anyone wants to try Lyft for free - you can use this code for a free ride LIPA4 or use this link - http://www.lyft.com/invited/lipa4
I like that you included music in your weird ways to be productive list, but there are more helpful option beyond just the two options you gave for music (use favorite tunes to power through boring stuff and turn off the music when critical thinking is needed). Taking the time to create playlists customized to your own personality and productivity needs can serve to further enhance what you can get done. Instead of turning off the music completely when you need to think clearly and be focused, how about a "thinking" playlist of music to have on quietly in the background that can "trigger" you into that critical thinking you need to do?
My mother neglected and abused me, and for extra fun would steal from me and mercilessly belittle me in public.
So, what lesson did I learn from dear ol' mom....... just this:
Never allow yourself to hold on to anger.
Never believe that you don't deserve happiness and joy.
Never think for one moment that you aren't worth loving.
Never allow yourself to be limited or defined by someone else's sickness.
Life is so much better when you fill your heart with love. Happy Mothers Day to all the good moms out there - the world is better for having you here. Peace.
Thanks for an excellent read. I agree there are important things that must be discussed with the family and money matters should be on your list. It would be difficult to deal with money troubles especially if you failed to plan and anticipate the results that it can bring.
Thanks for creating this post and adding in all the recipe links. I was trying to make a potato dish tonight and it became a disaster zone/mashed potato surprise, lol. I've already begun with the Korean pancakes tonight and will try my hand with some gnocchi tomorrow!
So $200,000 is a bargain when it comes to raising a child? Yikes! No wonder parents get so many tax breaks, they deserve it if they're shelling out that much for each child. I'm going to give my mom a check for $100 right now.
Mom taught me to be self-sufficient, to not depend on a man, or anyone else, to take care of me. Because relationships and marriages end, stuff happens, things change, etc. but the bills still need to be paid.
Thanks for sharing your story. Congratulations to your daughter!

Doctors sometimes know what they are talking about and you should listen to them.
To work hard

Be independent and live my own life. Don't rely on others for anything.
I learned how to create needed things or wanted things from things that I already owned.

We currently live on a corner lot and our yard is positioned to the side away from neighbors. We love the privacy!

i learned how/why to be frugal and how/why to be financially independent.
I learned never to sweat the small stuff!
I have a neighbor that throws dog feces in my yard. How do you deal with that. I don't even own a dog
My mom always said "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." I always thought it was good advice.
Aw, you made me so HUNGRY. :-)

Excellent suggestions, Tom! Thank you! I'll have to give these tips a try!

Thank you! I was about to buy from Timbuk2, but after reading this will seriously consider a Chrome bag.
