Free Halloween Candy from Kmart – With a Twist (Expired)

(Please note that this article was written in 2007.  As a result, the coupon is now expired.  We are not aware of any new coupons at this time.)

Kmart is offering a free bag of Halloween candy from now until Wednesday, October 31st. All you have to do is follow these not-quite-so-simple steps. If you’re as frugal as I am, it just might be worth it for you!

Visit Kmart’s website within the next few days, and click on the FREE CANDY link on the upper third portion of the page. Here is the direct link.

Watch the quick commercial in the pop-up and enter the code on the tombstone from the commercial. (I’m getting “TERRY RAVAS” when I watch it.)

Fill out the remaining contact info to get your coupon and updates via email from KMART (which you can unsubscribe from after getting your coupon.)

There are links straight to the coupon (which is the same for everyone), but I suggest you jump through the simple hoops to be fair.

Here’s the rub on HOW to use the coupon. It is only for snack-size Payday, Hershey's Milk Chocolate, Mounds, Reese's PB Cups, Kit Kat, Almond Joy, Heath, Hershey Take 5, Reese Crispy Crunchy, 3 Musketeers, M&M Milk Chocolate, M&M Peanut, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, 100 Grand, and Kit Kat Orange that ARE NOT on sale and priced at $2.79. Since Halloween candy is almost all on sale right now, using this may be difficult. If you can find any variety at regular price, this coupon should work.

Several Kmart’s are being reported as not taking their own internet coupon. (Our Kmart doesn’t currently take internet coupons.) If you’re feeling feisty, in a mood for some quick consumer justice, or just particularly desperate for chocolate, don’t back down.

Those of you taking advantage of the deal, let us know how it goes for you!

I appreciate that you're letting us know about the deal (really!), but what a pain for coupons they likely won't even accept. I think I'll just continue not shopping at KMart.

I used the coupon two days ago. I had to go throught the manager at our Kmart but they did finally give me the candy

We did a boycott on Kmart for awhile.  The prices weren't low enough to justify the hassle we went through everytime I wanted to use a coupon (of any kind.)  But I know that some folks are a glutton for punishment and others (some friends of mine) love to get into customer service standoffs.  I'm too tired for such things anymore... but I enjoy hearing of those that continue to hold Kmart accountable for their poorly planned promotions and lack of corporate communication.

Thanks for the report Lorna!

I'd already heard about this deal, and the K-Mart I went to took the coupon with no problems, bought some ON-SALE M&M's, and the teenager at the register scanned it with no issues at all. The forum where I found out about this has had a mix of good reports like mine, and bad. I was prepared to raise a fuss with a manager if it didn't work (a company releasing a useless coupon is just not right, and not good for customer relations), but luckily I didn't have to.
If you have the time to stop in and try to use it, it doesn't hurt to try and see if your K-Mart is a "nice" one.

I eventually did get the "free" bag of candy for .01 cent, but it was more hassle than it was worth. I had to escalate it up to the manager and ended up spending 20 minutes on what should have been a very simple transacation.

The coupon would not scan, nor would it take when the cashier tried to manually enter it and the cashier said I had picked up the wrong type of candy and that was the reason...I pointed out that it exactly what stated on the coupon, and even then, tried to say that I just needed to go find a different type of candy. I advised I had picked out the candy that I wanted, it matched what was on the coupon and only then did she say that the coupon was not any good at their store.

I had to request the matter to be escalated to the store manager. Even worse, where I live all the candy on the coupon has been marked down to $1.50 a bag and the coupon states the price of the candy is to be $2.79 and there is very small print on the coupon that the coupon does not apply to sale items and all of the items on the coupon were now on sale. I asserted that it was not fair to penalize me just because the candy was now on sale and the manager did relent and advise that he would let me use the coupon and tried to ring it up as a "customer satisfaction" issue and even then, they could not figure out how to ring it up and take off the coupon and ended up having to put it through for .01 cent.

That stinks!  It is interesting to me how "policies" can differ from store to store.  It seems like this was less than a freebie, and more an experiment in consumer advocacy... Eat your "free" chocolate very, very slowly to make it last!

I live in a small midwest town with very limited shopping options. Our closest Target is 70 miles away! We are do have Walmart & Kmart with of course the traditional dying main street stores (but not due to those 2 stores). Anyhoo - I always try to go somewhere else then Walmart because, well you know. But honestly folks - 9 times out of 10 I still end up going to Walmart. Someone could die in our Kmart & it would take a act of congress for the body to get moved. OK - maybe I am exaggerating a bit but not much. My son worked there one holiday season & I think even I could run that place more effectively. Maybe I should write to Martha... I have wasted more time there looking for stuff - it would have been cheaper to drive 70 miles to our closest 'shopping' town. I don't think I would drive thru the parking lot for the free candy even if they were tossing it into my open window.

This is a post from last Halloween.  I'm note sure they are doing anything similar this year.
