we are making food together at home and skipping the flowers. We will be watching a romantic movie and stay cozy at home especially with this snowy weather
When going out to dinner, we book in advance for a place that we've bought a Resturent.com certificate from. It's always been honored (check the details of your certificate) My favorite was a candlelight dinner on a blanket watching the waves at the beach! When the kids came, we have a "red" day. We wear something red and eat "red" foods. I go all out with the red table cloth (red bed sheet from a yard sale cheap) red glasses (bought for a song at a thrift store) When the kids were small, i'd have an Italian dinner, complete with strawberries ( $1 from dollar tree) on top of homemade pudding, then watch lady & the tramp.. AWWWW the memories!
I recently got a great quote from a dealership's internet guy on a hard to find car listed in their website inventory . Long story short, we went over immediately to find that the car had suspiciously "just" been sold (early on a weekday morning).
When we tried to get a similar price for the same car from another dealer he let us in on the trick. The internet guy didn't really have the car -- the great quote was just a way to get us in the door so they could try to sell us something else, while simultaneously convincing us that they had very competitive pricing (at least on cars they didn't have). So watch out.
I make my kid's valentine's for school, but I noticed there are tons of free valentine printables available on the web. They are really cute and there are many differents kinds, all for free!
I have addictions to two of the above, the rest I can (and mostly do) do without. First, Chapstick. Ugh, I'm an addict, it's serious. Second, I love gym wear. I'm willing to spend money on quality wear because first off, it looks a million times better, secondly, it makes me feel more jazzed about working out, and thirdly, it's what I wear to work (I'm an actress). Just like it's professional for businessmen to wear suits, I feel I'm presenting a more put together and professional image when I'm flattering workout wear than sweats.
For our first newlywed Valentine we will be cooking a special dinner together, putting on a Pandora station, lighting candles, and enjoying a romantic evening at home.
Don't get into an accident, tickets and don't speed. Maximize every bit of discounts one is eligible for. Finally shop around every renewal, eventually you'll hear the other company's agent say "we can't beat that rate". Then you know you finally have the best rate.
One often over looked discount is taking driver's safety course for an insurance discount.
My wife and I plan to have lunch in SF, and just walk on the beach with our 2 month old. It's not how much, it's who you have and that's more than enough for my wife and I.
As a teacher myself, I can tell you that music lessons are only really worth about $30 per hour. The other $30 is necessary to compensate for mental anguish that comes from the ignorant, uncooperative, self-righteous, and downright rude parents that plague us day and night.
When my partner and I were in college and have very limited budget, we used to go to the park with some packed lunch. This is our idea of a frugal yet very fun date.
We aren't tied to the day at all, so we either spend free quality time together or do nothing on the 14th, but go out to eat or something a week before or after. Once or twice he has surprised me with roses, but this year I asked him to hold off since they are so expensive and instead take me to Whole Foods a week or two later to let me pick out a fun spring bouquet. Win, win on my end! :)
I'm over 21 but don't work and am still claimed as a dependent on my parents taxes due to illness. I do a little "get paid to" websites (ie: swagbucks, instagc, etc) on the side for extra spending money on myself and sometimes birthday/christmas gifts. Is there a certain amount I have to file by myself or do my parents include it on their form? I honestly have no idea as I've never filed before. Also, does it matter if I'm in the US and one of the sites I'm earning Paypal from is based in the UK? I don't want to get in trouble as I don't need that kind of stress.
Agree with Danielle E - we have a nice dinner at home for Valentine's day proper but go out somewhere nice during the week of. Instead of gifts for each other, we put money towards something we are saving for (this year, it's new couches!).

I avoid romantic entanglements like boils, which is a real time and money saver on Valentine's Day! :)
We buy strawberries at the grocery store and melt chocolate to pour over the strawberries.

We generally have a really good steak dinner by candlelight (if the kids are gone)--inexpensive and delicious!
Groupon is the way to go! Got a custom made coupon book, with our pictures in it for $5!
Coupons for Dates, massages, etc.
Homemade valentines - my fave!

We go to Costco and get scallops. Not the cheapest meal, but way cheaper than out on 2/14.
We are celebrating at home ... then taking a trip the next weekend (to avoid all the overpriced hotels).
You better believe it. If the insurance finds out, they will cancel you and/or sue.

Making dinner at home, watching a movie and going to bed early. Sounds divine and romantic.
