  • Ask the Readers: What's the Worst Job You've Ever Had?   10 years 22 weeks ago

I've liked most of the jobs I had but one job was just terrible. The fact that my job as a grocery clerk (bagger) was bad had more to do with the boss and general management policies than anything else. Supervisors would just boss us around and the scheduling was so inconsistent and often ignored the schedules we had set for school and other jobs. They also required that I pay union dues after 3 months of working there, but as a grocery clerk, you wouldn't get any of the benefits the other employees got. Since it was a second job I took to pay off credit cards faster, I left right before my 3 months came up and never looked back.

I actually save money by using Peapod grocery delivery. It's so easy to compare prices and make sure I'm only buying what I *need* (no impulse buys) that it more than pays for the service. Also, they often send me specials or coupons based on what I buy, which helps a lot more than the random coupons for basically expensive junk food that I see in the papers. Don't know if other grocery delivery services are similar or not, so YMMV.

  • Extreme Couponing? 5 Reasons Why I’ll Pass.   10 years 22 weeks ago

Thought- for a not-for-profit, charitable sort of cause, maybe certain stores would be willing to offer a deal on certain types and quantities of items...?

Saves you the hassle of collecting coupons and figuring out the right combinations and saves the store too [as they can plan for it in regards to purchasing and distribution.

  • Does More Detergent Make for More Clean?   10 years 22 weeks ago

Powder detergent that contains surfactants does not remain behind after a complete wash cycle. The surfactants in powdered detergent have a hydrophilic end that binds to water enabling it to rinse away. If clothing is becoming raunchy, you may need to reexamine your wash routine, water hardness, and machine specifications.

Retail in women s clothing store. Really not a bad job but what I definitely did not like were the holidays that were brutal with the super long hours with not enough staff, cranky customers because duh the holidays, people trying to steal and being so overwhelmed with customers and not enough staff that at times there was nothing we could really do about it and like seriously why do people take a dump in the fitting rooms? why? :(

My worst job wasn't really bad at all....I worked at a supermarket just prior and during Thanksgiving. Those turkeys were heavy...Still, I was grateful to have a job at that time.

  • Ask the Readers: What's the Worst Job You've Ever Had?   10 years 22 weeks ago

My worst job would have to have been my first job, but that's only because my boss wasn't supportive of my dreams and didn't take the time to mentor me. Ever since that experience, I have chosen my career path based on being part of a positive, supporting environment!

The worst job was working for a hamburger franchise. I was a fountain girl and was paid $1.45 a hour which was top wages since the waitresses made .75 a hour plus tips. But I was required to do cleaning, make fountain items, man the take out room, and finally was forced to do curb waitressing during a thunderstorm since no one else was around to do it. After three months I was fired because I could not do the curb job. During the storm I fell and spilled all the items on the tray. But the good news is two weeks later I got another job with more money for less hours and it was a phone marketing job. That job got me hired by the phone company where I had raised myself to management and retired. Sometimes you can make a bad thing into a good thing.

My worst job was working at a daycare with 2.5 year-olds. I loved working with the kids, but one day, a parents brought in a child who had a high fever. After that, I had the worst flu of my life and couldn't go to work. I quit the week after.

Working odd hours as a "virtual assistant" for a business consultant. The jerk had me edit and rewrite large portions of his book, then refused to credit me for any of it - all while working on his schedule of 6pm - 1am...hours not agreed upon in his contract. Eventually he claimed he overpaid me and threatened to sue until I paid back some of my own salary.

My very first job was popcorn girl in movie theater. I was always covered in lard and smelled like a Orville. Also, my face was always covered with oil, more then Nascar. Not good for a 15 year old going through hormone changes.

Your preferred style of expenses throughout the week/month is dependable on the way one maintains their income. I hate shopping for groceries because it takes too long to bill out with never ending lines. We all must learn to prioritize our expenses for a luxury life.

Long-term care insurance is not for everyone but it is still very relevant today and provides benefits that other insurance products can’t give such as coverage for myriad types of care facilities and services.

It’s still a good financial tool given the fact that the cost of care is soaring and opting to pay out-of-the-pocket is not a good idea. The annual cost of a private room in a nursing home is $91,250 today while it is $80,300 for a semi-private room. After five years, these rates will increase by 4%. You will most likely exhaust your savings or worse, you’ll become a financial and emotional burden to your loved ones.

    It’s like this:

You might need insurance for long term care but other people might not benefit from this. So it’s best to talk to a care planner or a long term care specialist in order to receive expert advice and thus come up with a well-informed decision.

  • 10 Really Easy Ways to Unclog Drains   10 years 22 weeks ago

Came home from a particularly stressful and active day only to see my idiot roommate plunging feverishly at the kitchen sink. I knew something was wrong with the sink earlier in the week and obviously it got worse. Anyway your solution is the only really viable one. After checking with neighbors and having no snake readily available, I decided the only real way was to open the trap itself. All it took was a socket ed 5/16 wrench to loosen the o clamps and when I loosened that trap what came out I'll never forget, neither will my roommate. It looked like a clogged artery with grease and hair and food. My roommate washes the dishes and often times I find food in the sink and I have to scoop it out. He also does not pour off grease from fry pans. Well he will now

I love the analogies here. They really resonated with me. One that came to mind after reading your post is the power of using a mantra to stay focused. Remembering why you are working to improve your finances or your yoga practice helps to keep you motivated when it gets difficult.

My worst job was waitressing. It was so stressful! I had two panic attacks (that I thought at the time were heart attacks) while working there. I quit after a few months - no job is worth that stress.

  • 6 Retirement Products That Aren't Worth Your Money   10 years 22 weeks ago

I generally agree but to lump in the insurance products on a wholesale basis is asinine. People are living longer than ever before. The majority of states have financial incentives in place for long term care insurance and whole life can serve a very important viable and cost effective purpose for some nearing retirement. Neither are appropriate for everyone but to say to avoid them and have scant data to back it up is irresponsible.
