I love that tip. I'd say the same thing holds in the summer as well -- if you're comfortable in your house (or office!) in pants and long sleeves, your air conditioning is too high.
I found planting a garden helps tremendously. We have a little container garden on our porch and have herbs, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, jalepenos, soy beans. It was easy and really helps cut back the costs. Also I buy bulk food items such as dried beans, lentils and grains to make soups from. Our shopping bill is around $100 a week for 4 adults 1 toddler and a 90 lbs dog. Making things from scratch really helps and walking the aisles for deals. I also buy a lot of stuff at Aldi which is a real deal.
First time I made this it was fantastic! I used Gluten Free Pantry All-Purpose Flour. I had been scared away from making pizza crusts nearly 5 years ago right when I went gluten free and this was a cinch and very tasty.
I just tried the recipe again, but this time I doubled it and had to use a combination of flours because I didn't have enough of any one kind. I am not sure which part made it go wrong, but it was night right!
Anyone doubled the recipe with success? Maybe it was just my crazy flour combination.

They have local produce at insanely low prices compared to the local chain and their "generic" brands of pre-packed foods are all manufactured by big well know companies. I usually go every other week to stock up and including Toiletries and Meats I only made it over $100 the first time I shopped there - which also caused me to re-arrange my freezer to accommodate my bounty. If you have an ALDI near you go check it out! $1.19 for Spaghetti Sauce w/o High Fructose Corn Syrup ANY DAY, 100% Apple Juice for $1.79 ANY DAY...and they have great weekly offers too!
My husband and I eat out at least twice a week...especially if we're out doing errands at mealtime as we live fairly far from most amenities. Convenience and good coupons make it appealing.

The $15-$20 is to upgrade your connection, not the total bill. But if you want to go up to a faster connection that might be close to the cost you'll have to pay.

And while it's easy to hook up an HDMI cable and extend it over, most people don't want wires all over the place. The idea is to get as close to the convenient setup of cable, hence the additional cost to make that happen.

I definitely need to seal leaks. I'm living in a home built in the 1950s and it has had its fair share of wear and tear. Last winter, I recall my room being as cold as it was outside (30 degrees and lower). While being snuggled under 10 blankets kept me warm, it shouldn't be something I need to do each winter!

But let's also not forget about the fact that your kids will want to emulate what you're doing. So for parents, you need to watch how you spend money too. If you swipe your plastic for everything, your kid will just see it as a play thing and not something with bigger consequences (bills, late payments, debt, etc).
The story has so many flaws, that the moment I finished reading it, I immediately wanted to shoot myself in the head because I realized that this society no longer know how to reason or use logic, and has lost its ability to think critically about its own life and its surrounding environment.
First, anyone with a decent education will realize that tax system and budget do not work that way. You don't simply just cut %20 of taxes, and that if it did, the government will cut it proportionally. Also, if taxes were being cut, believe me, no one would be complaining.
Second, anyone with a decent education will realize that that's not how power relations work in society, and that 90% of people can't just simply beat up (literally, physically, political, metaphorically) 10% of the rich.
I'm aware that it's just merely a story to draw points to teach the reader a moral lesson; however, the lesson is horrifyingly retarded; like we should be somehow feel sympathetic towards the rich 1%? I'm sorry bud, I will not feel sympathetic towards people who make a billion dollars a year exploiting poor people of developing nations.
I'm also aware that the story is trying to attempt to teach us that when tax cuts are being made, it seems like the rich are getting more cuts because they make proportionally more.
I would agree but the story fails to take into account why people are unhappy in the first place.

So, the first 9 friends begin calculating and each decides to pay proportionally more, even the first 4 (who did not have to pay before, start paying 50 cents).
However, when we get to the 10th friend he says "wait a minute, this is fucking bullshit. I already pay more than 40% of the bill why do I have to pay more? If it wasn't for me, this bar wouldn't even be running. So, if you want to continue coming to this bar and getting a drink, not only am I NOT going to pay more, I'm going to pay less from now on."
The 9 friends look at each other in confusion, they're filled with anger and want to beat this guy up but they can't. Because the 10th friend is powerful, his best friend is chief of police, his brother is a supreme court judge, his mother's friend's husbands are leaders of political parties, his dad is an army general. He can't be fucked with.
The 9 friends have no choice and do their best to pay off the extra $20 and more on its own.
What's worse is that soon after, the 7th and 8th friend start defending the 10th guy. With stories like "Bar Stool Story" they claim that it is "logical" that the 10th guy pay less or that we shouldn't be mad at him for paying less. While the rest shake their head in shame for 7th and 8th's stupidity and naive-ness, and for not realizing that the system is cheating them, too.
